Southend in Malta Press

Good spot! Interesting article, raking up names from the past. I just loved the following excerpts......those were the days!!

"The referee, however, annulled the goal although photographs of the incident proved that the ball had crossed the goal-line before it was cleared by a Southend defender. However, these incidents happen all the time in football and one must not dwell too much on them."

and

"A few minutes later the Catania goalkeeper was hurt and his place, to the surprise of the crowd, was taken by Southend keeper Threadgold." who I assume was spectating!

I'll be in Malta in a few weeks, have to get the Times of Malta, rather than a day old Mail!

My Southend shirt will be gracing Malta again this sunmmer. After the last two summers in UK getting soaked, we're having a couple of weeks guaranteed sun there this year in the first two weeks in August. :)

Good read, interesting that our keeper Harry Threadgold steped in for Catania.I hope it was not under floodlights he never liked playing under them!
