Southend Council election results

loz

President
Main results- Tories stay in control

key points seem to be:

- Tories stay in power but lose a couple of seats
- gains for the Lib Dems and Independents
- strong showing from the BNP: 3rd in several constituencies and 2nd in one.

Interesting to see that the Tories lost seats against a nationally very high vote share- possible reflection of the large amount of recent press about waste from southend council, and the lack of progress on a lot of new projects (Fossetts excepted, fortunately!)

on the BNP score, I was surprised by it but then I only moved back to Southend last year to may have been out the loop a bit- can someone comment on whether this is a sudden shift or has been more gradual?

Well at least the Tories are losing some where ;) . Actually its good teh Libs and Indies are getting a look in , but its like anything recently , people dont want to do their own research or look into what really suits their own needs , just reactionary or revenge voting .

Still better the Rochford we had no candidates standing grrrr.

I acted as poll clerk up here yesterday and I was amazed at the turn out: Roughly 45% and that's without postals which is WAY higher than usual. Lots of first time voters as well...Labour in for a kicking up here too, but thank god there's no BNP candidate..

It seems the Tory strongholds are wanting to send a message to the Administration to get their act together, as they are the ones bringing in the Indies. Prittlewell has always swung between Tory and Lib Dems so no shock there. It was just a shame that Longley did not lose his seat to Shrimper old boy Ray Davy.

Is Mr Longley a season ticket holder ? I know he is a big fan/supporter of the team and Mr Davy works as car park attendant so , I would presume is paid by the club.
One giveth and one taketh away ?

Ken I know Longley comes to the matches, but when I have had to deal with him over the Community Centre issue, he did not endear himself to me during the all the meetings I had to sit through, so this is why I was dismayed to see Ray not pip him.

Anyway how many of the those who moan actually go along to their Councillors' surgeries to discuss the concerns they have?

I guess I am lucky in that being Chairman of the Shoeburyness Community Centres Association (registered charity) I get to meet the local councillors regularly to discuss the Associations concerns about the local issues.

I can't stand Ray Davy, the pygmy Hitler jobsworth, who tried to make my 85-year old Nan walk further rather than park in somewhere where we weren't allowed to. Glad he lost.
