Southend Airport Expansion

Support it fully! be great for the town

Agree completely, but having looked through some of it I'm glad they are realising the impact this would have on our already over saturated roads though. There will have to be some compulsary purchase of properties made, and I think some major improvements for the A127 and the access roads to the airport from it.

Also, because the figures are quite small, I couldn't work out where St Laurence's church was. You just know that people are going to be up in arms there.

I'm in two minds on this. I agree that it should be good for the town, and all that. But from a purely selfish point of view I have a concern. At the moment Southend Airport is quite GA (General Aviation - i.e. little plane) friendly, but with the expansion this is likely to change.

We've seen the same at Coventry, Lydd, Bournemouth, Southampton and plenty others I can't remember at the moment, and i'm worried that once again GA will be squeezed out.

And anyone that thinks this isn't a big deal should really think again. Where do you think the airline pilots that take you all on holiday started? They didn't start by flying jets, they all start with a PPL, and therefore losing GA airfields can lead to a lack of pilots, which funnily enough we have worldwide at the moment.

I think that the positives of this plan outweigh the negatives and it would help to regenerate that part of Southend which hasnt seen a lot of investment thus far from the Thames Gateway etc

Looking at the plans I haven't got round to it but it seems that the train station and new terminal will replace where the current flying clubs are. I don't know the deal with the GA flights and flying clubs. But as it is a concern to you LB I will ask my MD when I next see him and return with an answer.

With the ever rising price of oil, companies withdrawing services from Stansted....is this a sustainable upgrade to Southend airport?

Look at the companies that are withdrawing from Stansted, Max Jet, Eos and American Airlines. All transatlantic flights and from Stansted they just don't seem to work. Ok Globespan have pulled out. But you read on the news about Ryanair having to cut loads of flights from Stansted. What BBC etc.. don't realise is they do this every single year cut the flights down in the winter they have done it every year since I worked at Stansted in 2005.

Definitely 100% behind the expansion...always have been. Will raise the profile of this great town, and help us get City status by the time we move into FF ;)

If people have an questions they would like answering if you post them here and would like a responce I can get the MD to answer the questions for you all, when I see him.
