South Africa v Mexico

Right then, here we go, the start of the 2010 World Cup!

I really hope South Africa can get something from this game. The whole nation is behind them and this game against Mexico, imo, is the best chance for them to get something in this group.

Line Ups:

South Africa:

16 Khune
02 Gaxa
04 Mokoena Captain
15 Thwala
20 Khumalo
08 Tshabalala
10 Pienaar
11 Modise
12 Letsholonyane
13 Dikgacoi
09 Katlego Mphela

Mexico:

01 Perez
02 Rodriguez
03 Salcido
04 Marquez
05 Osorio
12 Aguilar
16 Juarez
06 Torrado Captain
09 Franco
11 Vela
17 Giovani

Come on Bofana Bofana!

half an hour gone and i'm not impressed with Mexico so far. They've been given alot of space down the right and through the middle but have done nothing with it.

South Africa have started to come into the game abit now, very even though.

Franco should have just scored for Mexico, decent save.

How was that goal not allowed? From what I gather and the ITV commentators, because Khune went for the ball that he was never going to go for, that made Pienaar the goalkeeper in the offside rule, therefore making Vela offside .....

there has to be at least two players between the attacker and the goal to be onside. normally the keeper is the last man back (but in that case he wasn't), and so there was only the defender on the line. (the laws of offside don't differentiate between goalies and outfield players).

That was a mystery to me too. Never heard that before.

How ridiculous is that Mexican goalkeeper, 5ft 8ins!? A TOTAL liability when South Africa get a corner, fancy France to get afew goals from corners in that game.

So thats why teams have only been putting one man on the post lately. Silly rule as Khune made a huge mistake and if he had done the right thing, it may have been a goal!

i don't think that's the reason behind it. I'm not sure why teams still only have one player on the post.... so many goals come from corners personally I'd bring everyone back to defend it properly, with two players on the posts.

David James afro is bigger than him!

You learn something new everyday with that offside call.

Mexico have been good so far, just need to get a goal....

I remember in Euro 2008 (IIRC) that Graham Poll would answer questions on the strangest scenarios.

For football fans i'm surprised at how many people don't know the offside rule.

2 opposition players between the attacker and the goal when the ball is played. The way it's been since 1925.

Don't forget refs and Linos ;)
