Song covers - better or worse than the original.

This is going to be very opinionated marmite thread I’m sure.

Apologies to those on the other thread for my lack of tech savvy but hopefully they can redo them here or mods can cut them in.

I’m going to start with something slightly unexpected and many people have probably never heard of ‘IZ’ but he’s legendary in Hawaii, Philippines etc. There’s also a rainbow/wonderful world mix worth a listen.

I actually have this on my playlist as a take a deep breath de-stresser and it rarely fails.

Nothing will ever beat the original because of the emotions behind the song, but this is a bloody good version if you like remakes that are not simply a copy.

The Tim Hardin full set. Or is it???? I suppose a cover should put your stamp on a song. But do you lose the essence of the original. It's certainly different.

How could have I forgotten this one. A live performance of 'Price Tag' by 5 session singers. Absolutely brilliant. If you haven't heard it before, give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

I've recently got into a family bluegrass band from The Ozarks called The Petersens. They're all one family (mother and 4 siblings - their dad is a doctor and doesn't have time to perform with them) except for the dobro guitar player who is a friend. They're devout Christians, and are so so talented. All of them sing and play multiple instruments. They do a lot of original stuff, but also a lot of covers. Two of the sisters have also released contemporary solo albums that are pretty good too.

I should also add that none of their videos are pre-recorded. Everything is recorded live.
