Sofiene Zaaboub Echo Interview

Razam

Coach
apologies if this has been posted before:

SOFIENE Zaaboub is keen to get his career back on track with Southend United.

The left winger endured a frustrating spell out of the game last season.

And, such was his enthusiasm to team up with Paul Sturrock again, that he travelled to Roots Hall from France just a day after opening transfer talks.

“As soon as I spoke to the gaffer I knew I wanted to be at Southend,” said Zaaboub, who was without a club last season.

“We had a good year and a half together at Swindon which went well so after speaking to him on the phone I got on the Eurostar the very next day to come over and sign.

“I’m very happy to be here because we have a very good manager who I enjoy playing for.”

Zaaboub has put pen to paper on a one year pre-contract agreement and started on the left flank against Dartford in Blues’ first pre-season game.

That ended in a 2-0 defeat and, to add to the disappointment, Zaaboub has since been sidelined with a groin injury.

“My groin tightened up after the game which is frustrating because this is an important time of the year,” said Zaaboub.

“I want to be playing but we have to sensible about it and hopefully I can be back out there again soon.”
