small pictures

Can anyone give me some advice please:

I have a really small picture saved on my lap top jpeg image (no bigger than a postage stamp) I want to be able to enlarge it but when I do it completely distorts even if I increase by 10%. Does anyone know how I can increase the size of it without it being completely distorted.

Many thanks in advance. Brian.

Making small pictures bigger without distorting them isn't easy as they don't usually have many pixels so they get pixelated when enlarged.

If you have photoshop try increasing the pixels/mm and then enlarging it.

magnifying glass...

Sounds like it's 72dpi (ie screen resolution), and as jpeg is a non vector based format it will distort and pixelate if you try to enlarge it. So you're screwed really. Unless you can get hold of the original.

enlarging in photoshop is the best bet as it applies some stuff to it when u enlarge it so it's not so pixely and distorted....but really...your screwed

Depends what the file format it is though, if it is a Raster (bitmap) then as you enlarge the image the pixels enlarge so you are pretty much buggered, but if it is a Vector format then you are fine.

Examples of these formats are

CMX (Corel Exchange)
CDR (CorelDRAW)
DXF AutoCAD
WMF Windows Metafile

CGM Computer Graphics Metafile
AI (Adobe Illustrator)

Please could you explain a bit more? Thanks.

You know what? Just do what I do in these circumstances and pass it on to someone who knows what they're doing, then be ever so grateful afterwards - it's far easier in the long run! :whistling:

Have done exactly that! Mr AS has the photo now so fingers crossed.
