Singing on the Terraces....

gilbo

Coach
I have noticed on my few visits to Roots Hall that it has often been very quite. Compare this to when I've sat with Norwich and Pompey fans, who sing their hearts with "on the ball city" and "play up pompey". Not to mention the pool fans singing "you'll never walk alone".

So if you could steal a song from another club and have it sung at Roots Hall what would it be?

Do you mean quiet..?

or Quite quiet?

We are not Pompey or Norwich or any other feckin club,we are the mighty Blues.

quiet.

and the atmosphere has been shockingly cr@p in my opinion. few songs are sung. i know this has been covered before, but when i was a regular visitor 1994-1997 i always remember the crowd being a lot louder than it is now.

if you dont like it then why dont you go and support pompey or norwich or liverpool then?

That's the problem with home fans being removed from a traditionally rowdy home (the North Bank) and spread across the other three sides of the ground. All-seater stadiums haven't killed off the atmosphere though so there must be something missing and I reckon it's a place where those who want to sing can gather.

The Mestalla in Valencia comes to mind as an example of such an atmosphere that I have recently visited. I should point out though that Valencia CF, much like most Spanish clubs, handed over two of the corners to the "peñas" (essentially the different supporters clubs) into which passionate fans are crammed. (There's no problem with officious stewards here; imagine 300 people crammed into 200 seats - you tell them to sit down!) Maybe SUFC should seriously consider (again) singing sections for their fans ...

Undoubtedly I would choose 'Keep right on 'til the end of the road' from Birmingham City. Awesome when you hear it at St Andrews. Dislike the Norwich tune a lot. Sounds a bit gay to me.

You're quite right Gilbo - the atmosphere at the Hall this term has been very disappointing, it was much better last year but even when the ground has 10,000+ people in it there's not a lot of noise....

Something the club might consider addressing

I think you'll find we are the 'Shrimpers' mate

I think that is what comes from not having a home end as such as the bulk of fans that would sing are stuck across 3 stands.

Away from home if you get chance we are really vocally normally but the hall does have a similar atmosphere to the moon I agree...

Shrimpers for me too......

I agree about Norwich fans - the most admirably vocal bunch I've ever had the pleasure of being amongst. I'd like to steal their song about following the boys home but the "yellow and green" bit wouldn't be applicable.

What's amazing is that our two most successful seasons in years have coincided with the virtual death of any atmopshere at Roots Hall.

As has been said before the atmosphere at RH these days is pretty depressing, it's why I prefer going to away games.

At least the guys at the end of the West stand try, but it's difficult to think of a solution.

When Stoke get going with Delilah it can be pretty awesome.

The idea for that just came one day a few years back on the home terrace when some fan started singing it on his own, and it grew from there.
