Simon Francis

He may have been considered but probably he wasn't interested as looking for something better.Think we would have heard if it was on the cards especially with the Bournemouth connection.

I thought it was a long time since he'd last played, but less than 1 year since he appeared in the PL. If he's still in shape then definitely would be interested in a short term deal.

If we cant tempt an Crystal Palace Reserve player then we have no chance of a Ex prem captain who was probably on 15 times more money than what we can offer him

Whilst I totally agree that we have no chance of getting him, I did find it surprising when Shrewsbury got Charlie Daniels (just moved to Pompey).

A lot of players have to take what they can get in this current climate. Add in the fact some players just simply want to play football at the end of their careers. It's not about the money, which is fortunate as we don't have any!

I’m also not sure how favourably he looks back on his time here. He got quite a lot of abuse even though he was one of our better players.

Vastly Underrated when he played for us I always thought, was a great servant as well when he was here. Sadly we are too rotten for him, we really need a change at the very top before we become an attractive option, if we ever were!

I remember seeing him play for us as an emergency striker up at Leeds i think it was ..... He was immense up front !!!!!! Pace , power , strength , mobility.

....Exactly what we need & we are certainly an emergency case right now !!!!

I think if he wanted to play football then he could have easily gone to Portsmouth or Crawley or somewhere local at the start of the season. The fact that he's not gone somewhere suggests that he probably has moved onto the next part of his career. There seemed to be talk about him taking up coaching.

The only way he would of ever considered playing for us again would of required a change of owner! Reckon he might of fancied it too.

Im pretty sure from what he has said he widely looks upon his time with us in a more negative light. Was coasting and not really with his head and heart into the game. I fail to see how he would want to come back.

Always surprised me he became a prem player. I always liked him for his crossing, dead balls and attacking but due to appropriate lacking cover constantly made us a liability down that flank. Sadly i feel his longevity eith us when we were in seemingly dire straits was more down to apathy rather than loyalty. Premiership to bottom of l2 is never gonna happen and if im honest i dont think him coming into the squad would fix any of the many shortcomings we have.

I saw a bloke who looked like Dimitar Berbatov in overalls in Westcliff Aldi buying two tubes of cheese and chive fake pringles, a bottle of Old Hopking Rum and eight cans of Galahad lager while whistling a Bob Markey tune. I got next to him in the queue for the till and asked if he was joining Southend and he said "**** off you soppy ****, stand two metres away from me otherwise I will smack you and anyway I ****ing support West Ham". But he is a free agent so never say never. Maybe MM was waiting in the van I saw him get into.
