Simon Dee - RIP

RIP indeedy, met him once at a charity football match, many years ago, playing on the same side as Jess Conrad!

I was too young to remember him on Caroline, Harry, but he was there in my first memories of Saturday evening TV, sandwiched between 'The Monkees' and 'The Invaders' IIRC. Jam sandwiches for tea - them were the days!

I vaguely remember him as a Caroline DJ, but have clearer memories of Kenny (Everitt) & (Dave) Cash, plus Tony Blackburn of course. Jam sarnies, luxury.

As Swiss said The Invaders was bloody scary.

Just read the Beeb piece and I didn't realise his political concerns helped unseat him, ie the Kennedy allegations. Slight link here (cf RFK assassination) with The Invaders too - definitely very scary! - and I wonder if the 'brainwashing' that they did was based on the MK Ultra/CIA 'mind control' experiments of the 50s?

The catchy tune, that E type Jag spinning up the spiral multistorey (mod for those days) a bird or three in it as well, jam sandwiches? Saturday night was fry up night! The good ol days of telly!!

Agreed! Also, I recall Mars Bars as being as big as loaves and Southend United winning FA Cup encounters by nine goals (sigh)...

al I remember was him being the Johnathon Woss of them days, and now, when I see Austin Powers..it had to have been based on Mr Dee (or was that explained when the film come out?).. Woss almost had the same immediate decline as Dee...Good old days indeed, but was probably a crap show(like Woss, again) I dont really remember....all too long ago

Don't remember too much of the show either, just that it was on about eight and that the guy seemed a 'big cheese' on television then. The comparison with Ross might only stretch to their respective big egoes though - I dislike Ross intensely and wish his career had declined similarly so that I didn't have to spring into action to get him off the screen/radio every time his irritating self-obsessed persona comes on. Still, the exercise must do me good, I guess...

it was the teeth and suits that was all very A Powers like..not a nice way to go..
