I rate him I really do. He's as classy a player as you're gonna get at this level. However, Simon, please stop being so bloody unselfish!! You're a striker struggling for goals.... just have a dig!! I lost count of the number of times he looks to pass rather than shoot. He's been like that all season to be honest.

The same can be said for all our strikers really. Always looking for that extra pass when a shot is on. I know it will come with confidence but I wish Brown would make that point to them.

Fair point 'Neil' but he wasn't the only one.

I think it's a side of his game that needs to improve, but the same applies to others last night.

The extra touch often made the chance more difficult and definitely allows the oppo a chance to get a block in.

Coxy is a confidence player, and his confidence in front of goal must be low, when I watched him in the past he would have buried some of the chances he has had recently. Have we got an attacking coach at the club yet?? If not, herein lies our issue!

We are still crying out for an attacking coach ,ive said this so many times before --- even if its just one morning a week. Someone like a Teddy Sheringham or Ian Wright who can give some enthusiasm and confidence to our strikers , show them movement off the ball , coolness in front of goal , quick shuffle to make space then BANG! SHOOT!!!! Admittedly the service to our strikers is very often rubbish , but last night several times instead of having a go they passed the buck.

When i went to training a couple of weeks ago , the strikers did no shooting practice whatsoever. Most of the session involved defensive shape and pressing midfield , without even having a goal to shoot into!!!! The strikers spent at least three quarters of the hour and a half with hands on hips , looking bored and standing still with nothing to do. Ridiculous when this is , lets face it , the most important part of the whole game!

I read Ian Wright's autobiography a short while back and in it, he states he often used to stay behind and practice with the coach for hours just hitting a spot in the corner of the goal. Practising shooting in precise areas, particularly the inside of the netting by the goalpost. Eventually, he often didn't need to look when he practiced. It became natural.

Like a top class cricketer. You still need to go in the nets and practice until everything becomes natural.

If they are not practicing enough in training, as you mentioned 'Danbury', then that needs rectifying quickly.

Yes we can. On the training pitch and reviewing match dvds with our forwards following games, I’d say Crowny could definitely be responsible for getting us 20 goals more a season!

None of the current quartet of strikers is capable of scoring 20 goals a season and a specialist coach won't change that.. 25 goals between them is a more likely outcome. We badly need a fresh face up front. Ba is probably not the answer, but until he gets a chance we won't know.

Our forwards are not spring chickens (Ba aside), with their years of experience they should all know how to finish and when to shoot by now.

The problem is they are all drastically on the way down in their careers and our clueless manager has signed them purely on their names and past efforts.

Ranger is not as has never been a prolific goal scorer, Cox is a 30 year old in a 40 year old's body, Fortune is almost actually 40, Theo Robinson found his level scoring 1 in 3 at non league level.

You could have Shearer, Sheringham and Ian Wright all on the training ground all day every day, the fact of the matter is you struggle to teach an old dog new tricks, especially when the old dog is shot to bits

It wasn't lost on me that the only two players to have a dig from distance last night were Yearwood & Wright, both of whom are probably not yet tarnsihed with the 'lack of confidence' brush. Silly thing is they all do the shooting practise in the warm up from around 15 yards but other than the two mentioned none of them try it in a game!

He would also benefit from stopping whingeing all the time and getting the referee's back up. He picks up a ridiculous number of yellows for a player of his type, not to mention any marginal decisions the ref doesn't give him because he's fed up with him moaning (yes, it happens!).
