Silver lining

Reading all the comments about Bailey et al, perhaps there is a silever lining...

there was a reason why we didnt do as well as our previous season in the ccc... there was a reason why we fell at the penultimate hurdle.

Bailey obviously did very well and we will possibly miss him. Francis though was a good player but definitely had his doubtors and his flaws... Clarke was a stalwart however there were always issues about our CD's height...

Perhaps now we can look at replacements which 'fix' our team flaws?

Of the 3, I think only Clarke is easily replacable.
Bailey will be a big loss, IMHO, and Francis showed when he got a substantial run back in the side what a good player he is both defensively and going forward.
BUT, Ron has said he's only got a problem with the agents not the players; there's still hope none of them will go.

Precisely. Nothing has been signed either way, I believe both Francis and Clarke want to stay and that neither offer is beyond saving. I've said enough on the subject of Bailey elsewhere so I won't repeat it here.

Perhaps there's a deal in the offing that will include Bailey? If Quarter Pound of Rubbish want Bailey, as Dowie has stated, then there maybe players there that Tilson wants, or players elsewhere that can be funded by Bailey sale?

If we are on a limited Transfer kitty, perhaps that RM has said must happen before they can be purchased. This way RM & Tilly don't look like they're the baddies in this issue? Considering they've had a huge clear out, they must have players lined up or in mind to replace them.

Only time will tell!!

Another thing we have to remember is that these players may have had a good season but they have never been overly successful with the club. Clarke and Francis were in a squad that got us relegated from the Championship and then had goodish seasons in league one and Bailey has has one good season in League One. If they now think that they are billy big bollocks and can turn down a bit of stability then they are not the players we want around. Barrett jumped at 4 years as i am sure would a couple of the other players, if they then they might be successful but they might also flop big time and thats a chance that they might have to take..... If i am really honest i'd rather have a 'disappointed to be freed' Tommy Black than any of the 'contract three' any day because it shows comitment.

Agree with this comment too, I wonder how many of those released might not have been if the contract negotiations had failed beforehand.

I thought we'd established that the QPR interest was just a wind up by one of our posters. A lot will happen before the season starts and I fully expect a mixture of players re-signing and new faces before then.

A QPR fan I know has been talking about Bailey signing for them for a few weeks now!

A wind up? Who knows in the transfer BS season!!

As QPR are one of those clubs with a seemingly bottomless cash bag it's a fairly predicatable guess that they would be one of the interested clubs.

I think one of them will leave out of the three - probably Bailey, we will obviously need replacements elsewhere and we will need a larger defence as we have released a few. Not a replacement for Clarke but a challenger, if he is to stay that is. Someone needs to challenge Clarke and Barrett for that CB spot!

I think Clarke is an excellent CD but the only problem is his height. He doesn't always work well with Barrett but I think Barett is the fault not Clarke.
Francis is excellent, he has his off days but who doesnt?
Then theres Bailey... No doubt about it, his amazing. But he knows it. I think his getting Freddy syndrome and his heads getting too big for the club. His partnership also hasnt been 100% with macca since the Tranmere game, it was our weak point in both the Donnie games. Whether donnies 5 man midfield made our faults more obvious, i dont know, but it definately wasn't right.
As people have been saying, no player is irreplacable, but its going to take time for the team to gel. Okay we have the preseasons, but most of them are against non-league. Look at last year, Harrold was scoring for fun. You cant judge teams or players on preseason and I think the way Tilly&Ron are trying to sell off the players is risky. But I guess they know best.
