Silly question...

For one reason or another the subject of Bob Hope came up at work the other day. But at least three of the blokes in the conversation hadn't even heard of the dead golf-obsessed 'comedian'.

So were my colleagues being daft in not having heard of him, or is it acceptable for a bloke in his 20s to have no idea who Bob Hope was?

the only Bob Hope joke I know is from 'Spies Like Us' , when he sees the state of Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase who are pretending to be doctors and acknowledges them by saying -

'Doctor , Doctor ..............glad I'm not sick'

However I have heard his name being used as rhyming slang for an exotic but illegal substance which is normally smoked.

.. a sign of getting old.. my parents and in laws are often surprised when playing say trivial pursuit and i dont know famous people that are household names to their generation.. though i think not knowing bob hope is pushing it a bit, i mean thats getting close to not knowing who elvis was ...

They must of heard the saying as well. You have two hopes and ones called bob!

Or the new edition - you have two hopes and ones dead. Which is a bit harsh.

Spiffy wishes he was just out of his teens. He's much older than me, and i'm only 22

I've heard of Bob Hope as well, ever since I was a kid, i've seen most of his stuff. That man was a legend.
