Echo News Shrimpers youngster dual signs with Isthmian North side

18459069.jpg

SOUTHEND United youngster Beau MacDonald has dual signed with Cambridge City.
The Shrimpers midfielder, who was four time for Kevin Maher’s side earlier this season, had spent the last month on loan at Isthmian North outfit Concord Rangers.

We are pleased to announce the duel reg signing of Beau Masters-Macdonald from Southend United.

Beau joined the Shrimpers aged 7 and in 2023 broke into the first team, aged just 16

Welcome onboard Beau and thank you to Southend United for helping us get this over the line.

And he will now be spending time with City who are 15th in the standings, and host Bury Town on Sunday.

whoever proof reads at the Echo please take note. Beau will NOT be undertaking any back to back pistol shooting, but he will still be registered with both with SUFC and Cambridge. Now that is a DUAL signing!

When posting the echo links, I normally correct and grammatical errors I see. There were a few today on the echo articles that I corrected. I don't spot them all as I was busy this morning, and missed the duel/dual mistake in this article, and also the... The Shrimpers midfielder, who was four time for Kevin Maher’s side earlier this season, which should obviously be, who played four times for Kev Maher's side earlier this season.

Because they are cut to the bone staffing wise because people expect to get news for free.

I appreciate people don't do it out of malice and want to help fellow fans but unfortunately every time people post (not link) an Echo article on social media or on here, it takes away potential subscription or advertising revenue and directly hits people like Chris Phillips in the pocket.

I get that @Jai, and I understand that it can affect people's earnings. But by the same token, unless a reader is able to by-pass the ads, it makes reading an article pretty painful, especially as a lot of the time the article is lightweight anyway. Obviously, the Echo has made a decision to post articles on the Zone and therefore it also has to accept that readers may/will not read them unless they are advert free. For my part I have the Echo delivered (hard copy) daily, therefore I'm not going to take out an electronic subscription as well Finally, there are methods to read an Echo article legitimately (ad free) as described via the Zone bootstrap note to each post.

As someone who used to work in the industry and reluctantly left it due to cutbacks, it's something I feel quite strongly about.

Fair play if you subscribe. I live out of area but subscribe electronically for £5.99 per month, less than the price of a pint and it's worth it not to have the ads.

If more people did the same, maybe they could employ more proofreaders!

The Echo (and many local newspapers) will be gone within a decade I suspect. It's just not how people want to receive their news these days.

True but that is a fairly terrifying prospect. Most people get their news through social media, where anyone can post anything and claim it to be true. Unregulated, often malicious. The Echo, and newspapers generally may not exactly be a bastion of quality these days but at least they are regulated.

I wouldn't read articles on the Echo's site anyway, as the advertising drives me nuts.

Yes, we have been having the Echo delivered for 40+ years and I love to catch up with local news, both football and non-football. Much prefer to national news stories.

I totally agree. My only grouse is when herself sits reading it over her early morning cuppa, and insists on reading out CP's articles to me regardless of the fact I read them on the Zone the night before!

I worked in the print for 22 years ( 73-95, i was a machine minder, as we were called back then! ) & we had 2 full time proofreaders. Back in 73-74 we printed the Rayleigh News Review newspaper, plus editions for Canvey & somewhere else locally.
One of our Linotype operators deliberately added obscene lines to his hot metal editorial to ensure the proofreaders kept alert!. Back then Kentucky Fried Chicken ( now known just as K.F.C ) were somewhat in their infancy here, & added the line 'finger licking good' after their main advert.
Bill W typed that & the proofreader removed it, because he thought it was a 'wind up'!. Result was Kentucky Fried Chicken ( the old Hamlet Court Rd branch ) complained, & the following week they got their ad for free!.
