Echo News Shrimpers midfielder Miley is sidelined by back injury

Our medical dept must be **** poor. We keep our players waiting weeks for scans and by the sounds of it often misdiagnose injuries.

Part of me questions has Miley had a scrap with Kensdale that ultimately was the reason for Kensdales exit

No.

As for the first part, I can’t comment on this again otherwise I’ll be accused of digging out JG again…

no - Miley injured his back v Daggers when he ran half the length of the pitch and did a slide tackle in front of the West.
Nothing to do with Kensdale.
Yes, he was in a lot of discomfort with his upper back/neck. Though I am surprised he was made to sit on a coach for that journey at the weekend if he was such a doubt! Having had a lot of experience with back pain over the years, that's literally the last thing to recommend!

Yep, would have been much better if they’d travelled by train. At least he didn’t have to sleep in a saggy hotel bed though.

I rate Miley (of course) but this will force Maher to give Morton a run of games in his preferred position and I suspect we may find we attack better as a result. I also suspect the defence will be slightly less well screened.

no to the second bit but yes to the first bit!

I just can't understand why this area wasn't addressed straight away. I said previously that it doesn't matter how good your team is and how many are in your squad, if the medical department and environment isn't right. That has to be addressed first! You can have a 30 man squad but it means nothing if they aren't training in the right conditions and are being treated and diagnosed in a way that isn't appropriate. That squad will soon drop like flies. We are now starting to see players that never used to miss a game, start to get injured. Miley never used to miss games for Eastleigh, or for us. He was out last season and is already out for us this season. Poor Lomas came in and had the worst move possible for him. I hope and pray that this department is being highlighted and changes are afoot.

Miley certainly wasn’t helped by being misdiagnosed and missing a lot more football than his injury meant he should have…

According to KM in his pre-match interview Cav has been training and playing but making it worse - he's been told to rest and have physio on it.

Strange that he travelled up to Oldham though - unless as vice captain he still wants to be involved even though he's injured.

Do you know if the operation on Noor's shin problem was delayed because we were so short of players - his interview after the op said he had been playing whilst in pain ?

What does it say?
Not a lot:

SOUTHEND United midfielder Cav Miley will be out for a "number of weeks" with a back problem according to Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher.

Miley missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at Oldham Athletic. And Maher will now be without the 29-year-old for at least the next few matches.

"Cav is going to see a back specialist this week," said Maher.

"He's going to be a number of weeks which is unfortunate but it's something that's been ongoing that he's been managing.

"We need to make sure he gets it right.

As I understood it he wanted the op towards the end of last season but the "club (medical area)' thought it could be managed and resolved without one.
He carried on and it got worse so it ended up being done near this season.
I believe he came back quicker than anticipated, but is a lot better now and pain free and gaining more match fitness.

I don’t think this is the only time the medical department have made this sort of mistake.

Is there something stopping us from doing something about it/replacing the person responsible? Because it seems strange to keep allowing things like this to happen without making changes.

I've said it before, JG came in at a time when we were desperate for someone to be a physio, he isn't qualified and may well be better suited to managing people that are.

Surely this is an area we need to strengthen as more of a priority rather than replacing injured players

Alternatively Noor could play at the base of the midfield three, with Moncur one side and Appiah-Forson the other.

Back on topic - fingers crossed Cav won't be out for too long.
