Echo News Shrimpers boss Maher reacts to scrapping FA Cup replays

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher does not agree with the decision to scrap FA Cup replays.

The Shrimpers' first round tie with Charlton must be settled on Saturday after the FA opted scrap all replays from the start of this season.

But Maher believes it is a bad move for lower league clubs.

"The fact we weren't consulted on it is something," said Maher.

"With clubs like us we're trying to get to a sustainable position and replays against big teams can make a huge difference to clubs at our level.

"For that to be taken away is really disappointing but we are where we are and we've got to accept it and more on."

The winners of Saturday's tie will pick up £45,000 while the losers will get £15,000.

Totally agree , the decision is for the clubs with 30 man squad who moan about number of games, then jet off to Australia, USA as soon as season finishes to play friendlies, absolute joke for the smaller fish
The excitement my young son got when drawing with a big club away knowing in a cold Tuesday January they would have to come down and he could his mates he was there
The sooner they form a European league and **** off be best interests for the league to have a rethink and care about other leagues and not just the premiershite

I would love to see that on the basis of go and don’t come back. Either the fans would get bored with it or it just ends up as an American style overblown extravaganza where the pitch stuff is incidental. They’d probably scrap draws as well.
