Sensible Soccer v Kick Off 2

Wow, cracking argument I've just found in a forum. A German guy has designed and made a new football game based on Sensible Soccer called Championship Soccer - it looks pretty good, but I cannot get it to run on XP... anyway...

In the forum, Stuart Campbell (he who made SWOS) has launched an attack on the German for stealing the idea of SWOS, further into the thread, Dino Dino (he who made Kick Off) has joined to say that SWOS ripped of Kick Off... Its now kicked off into a major argument - I've not read all 5 pages yet!

Probably of interest to only a few, but those that remember these 2 great games you've gotta check it out!

This Stuart Campbell seems to have ideas above his station. To claim this guy has copied the game is a bit rich, as there are several games manufacturers who could quite easily say that people copied their game. With football (and sport) games this is even easier. Fifa looks like Pro Evolution, Pro Evolution looks like David Beckham Soccer, Viva Football looks like David Beckham Soccer etc. the circle could go on.

What I find funny is how S.C says why it's like his game, and then just says it's laughable and sh*t! Tell us what you feel mate, don't hold back.

Love the way he keeps saying "Kick Off is sh*t"... take a look at SC's website, thats sh*t!

SWOS is one of my top 3 games of all time and reading what that tw*t has to write has taken a lot of respect I had for those guys off of it.

BTW, I got Championship Soccer to work in the end and its reasonably good. Feels a bit 'clunky' but lots of good ideas - worth a look if you like SWOS.

You can download a trial, which gives you plenty of time to evaluate. I think the unlocked version is €15.00.

I've just been playing SS fuinnily enough, using a SNES emulator. I was never really a fan of the Kick Off series although you could say Sensible ripped off Kick Offs idea of not having the ball stuck to your feet.

Yea, thats what Dino Dini was arguing as one of the things that SS stole.

I think its all balls anyway. SS LOOKS nothing like KO, not in the way say Football Glory on the Amiga looked like SS. Kick Off was nowhere near as good as SS, fact.

Anyway, would you not be better digging out an Amiga Emulator and playing SWOS?! The team files are still updated by fans today if you look round some of the websites.

Ahh the old Kick Off vs SWOS debate.... imo Sensi Soccer was the greatest one-player footy game ever created and much as I love Pro Evolution, it is still just about the most enjoyable game around.

BUT... GOAL by Dino Dini was by the far the most enjoyable two player game.

Ah I dunno - Goal! was very good, but carried some faults from KO with it.

SWOS was easily the best 2 player footie game, pushing PES3 close.

Now Player-Manager that was a great one player game...

I used to remember piling round my mates house after school for Sensi Leagues on the 92/93 version. ahhhhh them were the days. I can still remember that theme music.

Your a goal scoring super star hero etc.... lol
OK, with slight embarrassment - and knowingly played SWOS far too much to know it word-for-word...

*ahem*

"You're a goal-scoring-superstar-hero... you put your head down and plaa-aay with flairrrr... You're a goal-scoring-superstar-hero... and every goal, goal, goooooal says you're the best in the laaaand" doooo-do-do-do-doooo

Sensible Software always could write a good choon... anyone remember Cannon Fodder?

"WAR...never been so much fun... WAR... never been so much fun... WAR... never been so much fun... go to your brother, kill him with your gun, leave him lying in his uniform, dying in the sun..."

Aaahh, misspent yoof - hardly any masturbation time playing so many Amiga games...

I was about to mention Cannon Fodder as their other cool bit of song writing. IIRC it took full advantage of the Amigas stero capabailites so the music track was on the left channel and the lyrics on the right channel.
