I'm tentatively thinking about getting some sort of music player to fill in my boring commute and was wondering about second hand MP3 players.

In theory, if the technology used inside them is at all reliable, they should be fine. However, stuff like this often carries quirks at later stages of life and I don't want to pay cheap and get very cheap.

If not, of course, there's still the new Killer Su Doku to kill the journey til I can afford full whack!

Useful so far then at 2-2-4

Get a PSP, £180 of pure pleasure!

I'd say 2nd hand Ipod = dodgy given their track record with battery life.

I bought a 20gig Creative Zen sleek the other day. It is to Ipod what Sergio Georgini is to Armani but at £40 less it does the trick and it also has an FM Radio built in as well.

My mate commutes and he got a half decent portable DVD player for about £120. We used it on a flight back from Spain recently and the 2 1/2 hours sailed by without the battery failing.

My creative Zen broke the other day.

I'm trying to contact the company I bought it from but they don't seem interested in replying to my emails....

What dodgy track record is that?

I have had mine 2.5 years and the battery is still good. And if you do have one that dies, it is quite easy to replace either a DIY job or send it away.

The Battery issue is old hat and should not put people off.

My creative Zen broke on the way back from the LDV final, and I still havent been able to send it back!

It's a shame, because it was a great MP3 player. All I want is a replacement, although if they offer me my money back then I'll probably try something else (not an iPod, though, because they suck)

I bought a brand new iRiver. Pretty much ignoring most advice on here!

I do know someone who has a Korean crack that can enable it to play movies though and has all series of family guy in the correct format!

Still probably spent way more than was necessary though.
