Seb Carole

Can we still sign players on free transfers right now? IF so Seb Carole has been released by Leeds. A long shot, but seems a closer fit to the Gower replacement we have been looking for.

Thought that Carole would be a great signing last night when it came up on SSN that he had been released.

Surprised nobody went for him, but yea - deals can be done at any time for 'unemployed' free agents.

yeah i vaguely remember Carole being pretty good... and obviously would fit in well with French being the 2nd language in the dressing room!

Isnt there a rule that you can only sign free agents who havent been at a club this year ?

Otherwise you could keep signing free transfers on permanent deals?

found this on The Beeb:

The transfer window is now closed for permanent signings and will reopen on 1 January 2009.
In the Football League, once seven days have passed since the closing of the summer transfer window on 1 September, loan deals are permitted.
However, in exceptional circumstances, clubs can apply for special dispensation to the Premier League or Football League outside these times - for instance, if they had no goalkeepers available.
In addition, players who are unattached free agents, and were not registered with a club when the transfer window closed on 1 September, are able to join new clubs.
The transfer window does not apply to clubs below Blue Square Premier level. Meanwhile, if an out-of-contract player under 24 (who has been offered a new deal but has turned it down) moves clubs within the same country, then his "old" club are entitled to compensation. If the two clubs cannot agree a fee, then it will be determined by a tribunal.

Common sense would suggest they agreed to release him before the transfer deadline for the reason he could sign for someone else once it had passed.

He managed to get Thornton sent off last season, so right up your street ;)

Ooooh, get him in then, hopefully he can do it again!

In all seriousness, he creates things. He might not play centre mid, but if he creates, then he's what we need, and he'd certainly go some way towards replacing Gower.
