Scouting Mission

The Big Shrimp

Zone Photographer
Me & my partner decided to take a much needed long weekend away in the Cotswolds, this weekend just gone. Whilst she went shopping in Cheltenham, I went to watch the local lot play Sven's mercenaries, as its a ground I hadn't been to before.

To cut a long story short, I was impressed with Cheltenham's central defender, Michael Townsend. Big, strong, mobile, calm on the ball, commanding & seemed a reasonable passer of the ball. When you consider that he was up against either Lee Hughes or the impressive Luke Rodgers, who was replaced by Karl Hawley & who did nothing.

Cheltenham have less money than us & I think he would be a decent signing in January.

Of the few that travelled to Cheltenham for the League Cup, what did you think of him?

I know nothing about Micheal Townsend but I think it is more than a fair comment that we don't use the lower league signings the way we used to. you only have to look as far as Dagenham to realise the success a team can have, on a massively limited budget, pulling talent out the lower leagues.

The next Eastwood may be out there playing for Kiddiminster, unlikely but baring in mind our finances it may be a good direction to be looking.

... are you sure? How much do they owe the Inland Revenue ?

there's nothing to stop you emailing Ron/Tilly and mentioning this.

The reason we never get anyone from the non-league nowadays is because they often want a fee and we are potless.

txt from BS as he can not get on he Zone at the moment.........

"An e-mail was sent to Tilly late last night and the player I suggested to them had a blinder in a reserve game, created the only goal and never played again"
