A Bit of Fun Sawyer moving on elsewhere

The Big Dady

¡Viva la Kevolución! ⭐️ ⭐️
Sawyer could be on the move after his 3 month loan at Southend.

While I would dearly love him to stay at Southend a little longer, I can understand Chelsea and the player may want to play at a higher level after some fantastic performances for us.

Looks like this is one of many Championship clubs that have been watching him in a Blues shirt.

I wouldn't read too much into a team watching a player. The more interesting aspect of this is why has this now come to light. Who has made it public and why? Sawyer's agent?

Would be great to keep him, but I doubt we'll be able to. He's a quality player and it's no surprise he's getting attention from any club.

It's all guess work and no factual evidence has been supplied to back up the claim of the poster. For example:

"Sawyer is a central midfielder so appears an unlikely target for the Blues with Town already having innumerable options in that area at present. The Blues are likely to have watched the Shrimpers in action on a regular basis this season with Dan Harding on loan at Roots Hall."

The only fact there is that Harding is on loan with us.

Bit of a nothing story, wouldn't be surprised if some Championship sides are watching him though.

Quite true. I had added this to a post I made on the Scunthorpe penalty thread this morning. No one has mentioned also that the article goes on to say that Ipswich have no interest in purchasing another central midfielder.

Because poster 'phil' made it all up.

A bit like posts on here that starts "A source that I can't name has told me to expect the signing of an unnamed player in a unspecified time frame."

Sawyer could leave and warm a bench, somewhere like Charlton where he could watch Bailey give away penalties.. or he could stay here, start games and learn stuff from Freedman et al..

Ipswich may be in a higher division and get higher crowds and have won the league and UEFA cup but we are the bigger club. Why ride a tractor when you're already travelling in a Shrimping boat?

I may be totally wrong, but at the age of 18, would Sawyer not jump at the chance of staying here, should we end up having a successful season this year?

at 18 it is unlikely he will walk into many Championship mifields, let alone one with as many Galactico's in it as Chelsea, and given our close proximity to London, would this not be a perfect move for him, even if it was only to be in the short term?

At 18, the one thing you need to be doing is playing football, and whilst he has done superbly for us, as we have found out, there is a difference between this level and the Championship - one of the main ones being physical.

Let's not forget he only made his first ever competitive appearance 2 months ago, and hes a long way to go to being the finished article.

It would not surprise me in the least if we were able to prize him away from Chelsea on a permanent deal. There would be so many positives in it for him, and if the time came when a bigger club came calling, he will be well aware that we would not stand in his way if the right offer came in for him - it's a no lose situation for him as far as I can see it.

.... That said, he will probably be a Tractor Boy by the time I get in from work :)

How many more times must I say it, there is no evidence to support the post. It might just as well have read "Chelsea youngster not linked to Ipswich" All it says is Sawyer is on loan with us, as is Ipswich's Dan Harding.

Ipswich definately had a scout at the game on Saturday, and with Harding suspended they probably were checking another player out. Chelsea also had a scout there presumably checking up on Sawyer's progress.

My thoughts exactly.. (hopefully not the last bit though..)

shouldnt be a problem though should it from the horses mouth himslef RM stated that all the nicky bailey money would be used to bring in a suitable replacement? so surely we should have in the region of half a million for a like for like player so I say sit back relax and wait for his sig

I am probably talking out my arse here but I think (and pray) Sawyer will become a full time Southend player. I cant see Chelsea wanting him as they must have 20 Lee Sawyers in the ranks and with him out of contract in the summer I think chances are he could be moving on.

As an 18 year old lad I imgaine being local is going to be a big pull and short of maybe Orient who no-one in there right mind would join there is no-one closer.

He is playing week in week out here, seems to enjoy the banter and has openly said that he is enojying it here compared to say Federeci who has made it clear here is here for a loan and nothing else.

My only worry is a Watford type club coming in for him but I dont think he is quite ready for the Championship yet.
