Salute The General!

Not exactly hot off the press, but I only recently found out about the death of General Johnson, erstwhile lead vocalist of the wonderful soul band, The Chairmen Of The Board. Some of the old Leigh Comm brigade will remember those great singles from the early seventies, ie. Give Me Just A Little More Time, Everything's Tuesday, Working On A Building Of Love and Elmo James.

RIP General.

A great band ....Nerd alert::YB:.....Did you know the B side of Everything's Tuesday was called "Patches"..which went on to be a huge hit at the time for blind singer Clarence Carter.

RIP.

'Patches' is a hilariously awful song ... but they were one fine band indeed.

Nerd alert 2. Their label, 'Invictus,' was a beauty.

Ah maybe so, but it was his highest (written) chart entry....bizarre I know.

Memories of a Friday night disco at Leigh Comm, the girls dancing round their handbags, and the blokes trying to sneak out for a few crafty pints in the Carlton to pluck up the courage to ask your current amour for the slow dance at the end of the evening, and thinking reeking of beer and pickled onions was the height of sophistication. Happy days.

RIP General, I loved Chairmen of the Board.

Nothings changed then Harry
