Sailing

Mad Cyril

The Fresh Prince of Belfairs⭐⭐🦐
I have recently got into sailing and am hoping to purchase a laser or similar by the end of the summer.

Any other sailors out there?

I did my level 1 & 2 RYA courses down at the Water Sports Centre nr Lifstans Way a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed them; but lack of time limits me at present to the 2 weeks holiday sailing when we are away. I have done some crewing on large boats and enjoyed that too. If Mrs. G would agree I would go on a flotilla break. Have fun mate.

''Hello Sailor.''
Seriously though, many moons ago when on our honeymoon on St Lucia, I tried sailing for the very first time on a sunfish sailing boat. It's not the sort of thing I would normally do as I'm strictly a land person, but to my surprise, I absolutely loved it. I had two hour lessons, and then they let me go out without the instructor. So every day I would set off with the wife across the Caribbean sea. Absolutely glorious. Sometimes, I just had to go out a few times a day, so would line up loads of cocktail drinks where she was sunbathing by the pool or on the beach, to keep her happy, and off I would go. The clear blue/green sea, the sun beating down, and enough wind, but not enough to make the sea choppy. I liked the skill involved in catching the wind, as sometimes you had to do a sort of triangle course to get to where you was heading or get back to shore, if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. We later went to the Bahamas and the sailing was just as good. Leaning all the way back, with the boat tilting as you catch a strong bit of wind, it seems like you're slicing through the smooth water really fast. There's nothing like it. Then of course mind your head as you turn the boat around and change sides, to head back to shore.
Now the funny thing is my wife said why don't you go and do it on The Thames. I said it would never be any near as good. Grey dark choppy sea, cold water. It would never be anything like sailing with the perfect conditions of the Caribbean sea.
