Chalky

Coach
Striker, Rowan Liburd who was on trial with us last year . Went on too sign for Billericay town, where he tore up the Ryman premier. Has now signed for Reading on a 2 year deal.

Sometimes plays need that knock back to become a better player. Kightly probably wouldn't be where he was if we hadn't released him.

Signed for their development squad- wish him well & hope he makes the grade
what we really need is min 3 proven strikers strikers
Doubt he would want to play for our U21s

If he's able to get in the first team there and impress then I think it yet again illustrates Phil Brown's shocking judgement of forward players. Didn't we sign Layne and technically overlook this guy and Jordan Chiedozie? (not that he's exactly set the world alight at Cambridge, but, still...)

At least we looked at him and decided at that time he didn't fit the bill. I'd rather that than he never came on our radar.

And if you look back you will be hard pressed I suspect to find many posts from
people saying we should sign him- and that was for L2

What it does highlight is the benefit of having an U21 set up- maybe if we had that last year then we would have taken the chance

He is 22 year old and signed a 2 year development contract to play for their under 21s. I highly doubt we will be losing sleep over letting him "slip through".

Not necessarily.

Signing a player is as much about signing someone to fit into your system. He could have been a good player but just not suited to the system we play.

I'm not entirely sure that many forwards suit the demands of the system(s) we play - Corr has been comfortably the best so far but even he made it pretty clear that he didn't like it - but that's a different matter....

i think that's a bit harsh, we don't know if he's any good yet plus it might be that a Championship team can develop a player that wouldn't have been willing to start so low down the pecking order at a league 2 club.

even if he scores 100 goals in 200 games for Reading that doesn't mean that had we signed him then he would have done the same for us

Probably right. Wouldn't flourish in a 4-5-1

Have The Blues Missed Out on another talent

I see Rowan Liburd who we had on trial last year who went to sign for billericay and hit 22 goals has secured a contract with reading! I remember seeing him against Braintree and looked half decent
