Router Problems

Grayson

Life President⭐🦐
Our Virgin Media died completely just before full time in last night's round of matches (in SS2, did anyone else have the same problem?). This morning the TV and phone line returned, but the broadband hasn't, our wireless internet is on local only and won't connect properly. It appears the router is the problem as I am hardwired to our modem at the moment to post this.

The router was working fine until VM's services all broke, and now will not work at all. It's a Belkin router, and the 'modem' light flashes orange when plugged in, but the modem works fine.

Any suggestions? I've had a play around on the router settings but with no luck. The one thing I haven't tried is restore to factory settings, as I did that before and it caused more grief than it solved with settings for all the laptops/PS3 internet stuff.

Any help appreciated.

Silly question. But have you powered down the modem and router for a couple of mins?

I live in SS2 and had exactly the same problem. Internet stopped working last night about 9-9.30ish. I'm at work at the moment so haven't had a chance to try and sort it out this morning. Won't be home til after 6pm tonight so let us know if it gets sorted please Muse!

Yep Smiffy done all of that numerous times. Been trying to figure it out but to no avail so far.

EDIT: Powering down just worked on the nth time! I found something on google about a specific sequence, and that did the trick. Shrimpersarmy, if yours isn't working, turn off modem and all PCs/laptops. Leave it for a few minutes, turn on the modem, and leave that for 5 minutes too. Turn on PC, and it should connect properly. It seems VM conking out unexpectedly does something to the router. Shame their support team couldn't tell me that.

Oh well, hassle over!

Something for future problems mate is 192.168.1.1 type that into your browser and you can access all your settings from there.
Changing the channel etc for your router usually works. For me anyway!

There is a vrigin status checker website somewhere which will tell you if there is a known problem in your area.

Fairly common with routers , you have to make sure that nothing is connected and if your connecting via a secure route (like a VPN for instance) it would need to re-establish authorisation first . More a DSL man myself , but only becuase i havnt got cable in my area yet (August allegedly ;))
