Roots hall sound like a graveyard at home matches

Having travelled far and wide with the blues i find the best atmosphere is at away games. At home appart from the blue voice in the west stand support vocally is fairly muted. What do you think is the reason for this?
Having travelled to Donny (electric atmosphere), tranmere, northampton ect where we possitively out sang the home supporters.
I get to home games at roots hall and everyone seems to lose their voice, why?

It's been discussed many times before, and there are a few reasons, however the acoustics at roots are shocking and no sound can really from one stand to another.

The south stand sing almost all the time. The blue voice are doing a great job at trying to improve the atmosphere at roots hall.

Problem with the South Upper is that as it's a narrow stand you can have 3 different songs being sung at the same time. I have yet to see the whole South Upper join in with the same song at the same time. Maybe give it a go on Saturday.

Why is this thread in the FF section??

Due to the reference of "Graveyard" in the thread opening

I don't think this is unique to Southend. As you said we outsing home fans at many away matches.
I think its because those who go to away games are those who are more likely to want to sing and also its easier to sing when people around you are singing.

I think the reason is because the people that go to away games,
are die hard southend fans and actually support them, and don't support anybody else. And at home games, you usually get loads of plastic fans.

It's much simpler - at Roots Hall, people are spread out more around the ground rather than concentrated in one area as they are at away games, and as TS says above, when you go to away games because you're grouped all together, you are more likely to join in. Then there's always the acoustics at RH to consider as well.

Yep :)

The atmosphere is deffinately getting better though.
If I'm honest I don't really think that roots hall sounds like a 'graveyard' at all.

oh it does sound like a graveyard, it may not sound too bad if your sitting next to someone singing but whenever i have been on the pitch i cant hear anything apart from the away fans, i know you can make more noise in the north stand but even if we were in it the noise wouldnt be hardly any louder.
