Roots Hall Orchestra Pit?

Javea Shrimper

Guest
The board at SUFC are keen to recreate the noise and support levels witnessed at Upton Park a few weeks ago and are calling for fans with "musical ability and equipment" to congregate in a designated area to cheer on the Shrimpers during this Saturday's game against Wycombe Wanderers :

"Let's Hear That Roots Hall Roar!"

Nice picture of the 'Spanish Shrimpers' flag and of the STC congregated behind!

what about a flag day like Liverpool have

I would be more than willing to bring my drum but rugby gets in the way so i cant and i cant this saturday due to going to a anti terror war march!

about the muslims celebrating 9/11. but if someone wants it they are more tha welcome to it!

Does this mean the "Sound Machine" will have to boost the output to their speakers so that they can be heard over and above the drumming / trumpeting?

I can imagine many rather delicate gentlemen [bladdered!], being somewhat upset and having to reach for the pain-killers at some point on Saturday, or there could well be some drumsticks protruding from certain orifices of drum owners too...

Should make for quite an entertaining atmosphere / spectacle then...

But i have also been told by DAVE JOBSON, that drums, drum sticks, ripped up papper are not allowed in grounds due to being able to use the sticks as weapon and the papper makes mess for cleaners!

Sorry but if i have got some fella sitting next too me banging a drum in my ear for 90 minutes i will have too have a word in his ear.

I think it is a pathetic idea having a band in the ground. Don't get me wrong the chearleaders can stay as i beleive they have a good effect on the players and fans alike but a band, do me a favour lets just stick to good old fashioned singing and shouting.

The trouble is the atmosphere is missing at Roots Hall now. You get the odd song from the South Upper, couple of songs aimed towards Away fans from End of West and the East seem to only join in when we have a 'Barmy Army'.

I totally agree with you about the drum in your ear though, as I think it would **** off anyone, but if there were several designated areas it could work.

I remember a few years back the club hired a band. One of the worst things the commercial department has ever got wrong, as the band did not even know any football songs. At least this way the fans have got the power to up the tempo themselves.

The club have realised that we need to create more of an atmosphere at the Hall and are trying to at least do something constructive.

.... have a section of the stand where its a sit where you like access. We're not going to get standing so the next best thing is to just have a free for all where people can choose where, and with whom they want to sit. The singers will soon merge to form a united front.

I don't agree with trumpets or drums but some loud dub bass guitar might create the right atmosphere.

What's the right atmosphere, MC... a bohemian one?

The right atmosphere is a happy atmosphere, like in the Russ Abbot song.

I think Ron and the club should be aplauded for at least trying something to get the atmosphere back.

Maybe a Band isnt the right idea, but you never know unless we try it and maybe it will prompt those who dont sing to give the players a little shout?

They usually do give the players a shout, usually in the form of: "You lazy ****!"

Good idea, worth trying. If it doesn't work, we're no worse off.

I say put the musicians in the corner in front of the security box in betwen the West and South lower.

If it isn't "in your ear" but you can hear it rhythmically from several yards away, it I'm sure would be surprisingly vibrant and could actually have a positive effect.

Trumpet players should obviously be able to play "The Great Escape", "When the Saints go Marching in" and that other really annoying thing the Sheffield Wednesday band play incessantly that really ****es the opposition off. As long as they don't play "Emabarrassment" by Madness...

Well done Blues for trying to take an initiative.

A piont to consider is when we are away from the Hall we are usually hounded into One area of the ground, this fact plus the trip to wherever and beer makes us into a United front.
Unfortunately with the loss of the north banks accoustics and the pockets of singing at different parts of the ground we seem a bit disjointed.
Perhaps a loud noise coming from a far distant corner of the Hall may do the trick or perhaps being able to get the drinks quicker.
Just a thought.
