What are you doing Friday?

Fancy a beer & a chat about Southend, with fellow Shrimpers? You’re in luck. Roots Hall is hosting a book launch.

Thanks to SUEPA, over 60 Shrimper fans & ex-players have collaborated on a new book entitled Roots & All.

Written by the fans, for the fans. Relive some of our clubs historic moments, as seen through the eyes of the fans who lived and breathed it.

It’s FREE entry, no pre-booking necessary, just turn up, have a beer and mingle. And if you fancy buying a book for a tenner, then do so.

Can't make it myself but good luck with the whole evening, deserve a decent turn out and a few book sales, if I say so myself as a contributor!

Book arrived a couple of days ago, looks terrific and a great read, a credit to the editors and everyone involved behind the scenes.
I'm another contributor that cannot be there. Hope the evening is a resounding success.

Was an absolute pleasure to be a part of this and my thanks again to Andy and Paul for their efforts in getting it organised and put together. Unfortunately I also won't be able to attend tomorrow evening's event, but hoping that all who are going have a great night, and I'm very much looking forward to getting the chance to read all the different stories that people have contributed.

New book - for Southend United fans (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

The Southend United Ex-Players Association are celebrating the publication of their new book ‘Roots & All’ with a launch party tonight.

Roots & All is a book of tales written by fans for the fans.

And SUEPA organiser Andy Leeder is certain it will be a big hit with Shrimpers supporters.

"The book is written by the fans for the fans," said Leeder.

"Pulling together 65 different stories with my co-editor Paul FitzGerald has been hard work, but fascinating too.

"Some stories are funny, others emotional and some are even quite 'Churchillian'!

"But all are heartfelt and I'm convinced that every Shrimpers fan will simply love it"

Copies of the book, which costs £10, will be available for sale at the party which gets underway in the Shrimpers Bar at 7pm this evening.

All profits from the book will be paid into a ‘SUEPA Fund’ operated by the Shrimpers Trust.

The SUEPA Fund's key goal is building up monies to help protect the club’s history and heritage.

Entry to the party is free and a pay bar will be open. The event closes at 9pm
