Ronnie Whelan - Get down the dole queue

The Business
Dear David

Thanks for your email to Sky.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your kind comments with regard to the overall coverage given on the Sky Sports channels. It is always pleasing to learn that all of our efforts to provide quality entertainment are appreciated by our viewers.

I was sorry to read of your dissatisfaction with the ex-Liverpool player and Sky pundit, Ronnie Whelan.

Sky Sports commentators and pundits alike are selected on the basis of their expertise in their particular field. With a vast knowledge of their chosen sport, we do endeavour to ensure that they provide our viewers with information that will complement and enhance their viewing enjoyment.

However, it is always appreciated when viewers take the time to forward comments and feedback. The points raised in your email have been noted and passed to Sky Sports for their information.

As a valued customer, I hope that the above information will assist you in deciding whether to continue with your subscription to Sky. I genuinely hope that this will be the case.

Kind regards

Pretty stock response, but well done at least they have read and acknowledged your letter.

If it keeps Whelan off our screens and our games - great.

given the fact that collymore enjoyed successfull spell with both forest and southend that would be great. he wouldnt be too biassed against either team

Sir Stanley is also far more articulate than your average pundit.

Great player though he was, Whelan does just tend to trot out lazy cliches.

Another t%&t I never want to see giving his 'chip on the shoulder' opinion about our club again is Ian t%&tkins, he absolutely loves putting the downers on any of our performances, dont think i've ever heard a positive comment come from his sewer like trap actually and quite frankly knows f%&k all about us...

So glad we never hired him, what a complete and utter knob jockey he is!.

As much as I dislike Atkins, I think you're being a bit harsh there - he actually gave us a fair bit of praise last season during his punditry. And he complimented us after we beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 in April too.

Have to agree with Kris on this one. I thought Atkins was also very complimentary towards us last season.

Doesn't stop him being a pratt though!

I think this stems from his playoff "punditry" last year when he did seem very pro Northampton & very anti-Southend.

It was down to our solid performances over both the legs of the semi that he had to change his tune & admit we were the better team.

Atkins = moaning Brummie ar5ehole.

I don't think Atkins s that anti-Southend. He tipped Northampton against us, but so did a fair few pundits after our end-of-season. If you read his notes in the LDV final programme about us they are pretty spot-on about the strenghts and weaknesses of our key players. At least he knows what he's taking about when it comes to the Southend side of 2005, unlike the likes of Whelan and Alvin Martin.
