Robbshrimps Match Ratings

Robbshrimp

Youth Team
Good performance today overall, lacked alot in the air today though but they were alot more physical side than most with their presence.

Anyhow my ratings for the players today :

Flahavan : 8 : Solid performance again from Flahavan showed safe hands each time the ball was in the danger area.

Hammell : 8 : Guy looked very very classy I thought with his runs, defending and overall performance. Bit shaky early on but only lasted no more than 5/10 minutes.
Prior : 7 : Bit harsh on the man but felt he will be used alot more back up then first team this season. Overall didnt do much wrong.
Barrett : 7 : Showed really how we missed a good performer in the air today with Barrett struggling with their big center forward for most of the afternoon.
Francis : 7 : Played well first half but second half seemed asif he was perhaps carrying some kinda cramp. Few times got caught out by the bald left sided midfielder, but was solid debut.

Maher : 7 : Did well and did the usual Maher distrubution.
Guttridge : 8 : Looked very comfortable on the ball and without it. Worked hard and looked a very good outlet going forward once again.
JCR : 7 : Man showed just how skillful he is with alot of darting runs which caused Stoke many problems, only trouble being was his usual not knowing when to pass, shoot or continue.
Gower : 7 : Worked well with Hammell and looked very comfortable on the ball.

Bradbury : 8 : Guy worked endlessly and made some very good runs aswell as flick ons. Got our penalty after a no hoper ball.
Eastwood : 8 : Looked class apart from everyone today but really needs to know he can shoot from anywhere and it'll more often than not go in.

Subs :

Clarke : 6 : Didnt see enough only came on for a minute.
Hunt : 6 : 1st Sub always a reassurance for when we finish a game.
Paynter : 6 : Obvious that he had no time to prepare for the game and did some nice things but what on earth was he thinking with that hoof

Overall was a comfortable performance from the Shrimpers and Stokes only real threat came from long balls in the air. Roll on the rest of the season.

Seemed aswell alot of the new players were tiring up perhaps from the occasion but that was only natural.

Ye agree with that maybe was bit harsh on Maher but perhaps it was because of Stokes playing style he wasnt involved with alot of the play.

He did do well though cant take that away from him when he had the ball. Always was calm and collected in tight areas.

True which is why I said Maher did his usual Maher thing just today he wasnt the better centre midfielder which is usually the one that is..

Well done Rob, you've saved me a lot of typing as I pretty much agree with that.

With the centre backs, I think they were just marking the wrong man too much of the time. As soon as Prior got on Sidibe, his effectiveness was halved. Before that he was up against Guttridge, Hammell and Barrett and was winning everything. If we can sort this out on set pieces, long throw ins, etc then I don't think we'll get caught out. Think we maybe missed Ricketts in defensive positions on set pieces.

Barrett had me petrified at times though because of how easily he was held off the ball. As always, fantastic timing on tackles and full of commitment but are we going to be lacking physically in the centre of defence with no real pace and no real strength (Sodje excluded)?

We'll see. 3 points in the bag against a decent side and lots of good performances.

One more thing too, our midfield, by and large, were exceptionally good at picking up the second ball. As soon as we competed that little bit more on aerial balls, we annulled their threat considerably.

Ok cool, its great to have 2 great centre mids, we completly controled the centre of the park today.

I think that's the main reason clarke was signed and I expect Clarke to start if not at Palace then at Loftus Road next saturday.
