Ripping DVDs

Ahoy.

Can anyone recommend decent free DVD ripping software for PC. My new laptop doesnt have a DVD drive so I plan to rip to a removable hard drive and transfer.

What is the best file format to rip to. It would be good if I could maintain the menu etc.

I recently used one called Handbrake. Seemed pretty decent.

Freeisocreator, basic and lightweight but does the job perfectly. It creates iso images which is industry standard which can be mounted using a program called magicdisk (also free) or automatically on win 8.

I use MakeMKV, it's still in beta so is currently free.

Ok, I ripped to an ISO and mounted it bit none of the free DVD players I can find work.

Can anyone recommend a decent player or could the issue be caused by copy protection?

Could be caused by DVD Encryption issues..... Handbrake can get round that easily you just need to copy libdvdcss-2.dll file to the HankBrake installation folder and you'll be laughing....if you dont have the file just google it for a download link.
