One of the giants - in every sense - of the game is sadly no longer with us.
No longer will we be seeing him dig his car keys into the pitch or hearing "hard and fast", "right off the meat of the bat", "blow it out your arse Bill Lawry".
He was someone that lived and breathed cricket and whose knowledge of the international game was unsurpassed. Almost uniquely, his passing will be mourned in four continents - in Sri Lanka who he tirelessly championed, in Australia where he was a legend of the commentary box, in South Africa where he was born and raised, and in England who he captained and played with great courage and for no little success (batting average of over 40 and a bowling average of around 32).
A great loss to cricket.
