Richie Foran - thoughts

What did everyone think of foran today?

Firstly, we must consider that he came on in pretty difficult circumstances - i.e. only had one day of training, doesn't know any of the players, has never played with the team, was being played o nt he left rather than up front and came on as an early subwhen things were getting a bit heated.

I personaly was realy pleased with his performance, and definitly looks a good buy. Considering clarke and paynter had poor starts with the club, Foran seems to have allready given a good impression of himself - even though he still need to intergrate with the team.

So what's he like for those who didn't go?

Well he's about 6 foot tall, good speed - but not overly pacy, won the headers, and is right footed.

From what I saw today I wouldn't say he was tricky, yet he seems to have the skill level to play in this league.

and commitment?

Yes. He's not going to be a lazy striker - just the sort of player we need to go with other commited individuals such as macca, clarke, barrett, hammell etc.

Was his assist any good?

Yes. His movement to run on to a short through ball inside the area was very good and he accurate rolled the ball with a perfect wieght for freddy to tap in. Good assist.

Will he score goals?

I think so. Don't imagion he will be prolific like fred, but I think his movement will allow him to score more goals than the likes for bradders and paynter.

Verdict?

Well, we have to see a lot more of him yet, and we must give him a month to settle in, but from what I saw today he looks very promising. Considering how much players are going for today, on today's perfromance, 200k was difinitly not over priced.

P.S

would love to see him start along side fred against qpr for his home debut on sky

Good post, totally agree. Looked really up for it. And just for the statos, todays goal was Freddy's first of the season from beyond the penalty spot....in fact, it may have the first of the season for anyone :D

Excellent first game, I dont think the plan was for him to come on yesterday, it was to just watch. He has said how surprised he was at the pace, and we should be expecting a settling period, but he seemed to link up very well with the players he is going to really need to, i.e. Gower and Eastwood.

Great first game, and what a cross!

He showed real promise to be a very good player for us. his first touch was second to none. His movement was also superb. He was also playing in a position which isn't his fav. So all in all good player( At least what i've seen of him)

I'm sure Tilly will be loyal to Bradbury, as is his way and probably rightly so, but Foran must partner Freddy sooner rather than later in my opinion - admittedly only based on yesterday's display.

I would say he can offer everything LB can, and a little bit more: sharper and more of an eye for goal. Maybe too early to judge but really liked the look of him yesterday - bundles of industry and little flashes of quality.

And does Bradbury appear to be tiring these last few games? A shocker at Spurs and not in the game yesterday. Richie could, just could, be a key player for us in this run in. Just as he came on earlier than expected yesterday, I hope that he gets a run up front sooner than I suspect he will.

Foran looked quality.

He was not easy to knock off the ball, unlike so many of our squad, and he fought well for everything.

I think we've done another good piece of business there!

The general consensus from Motherwell fans was that he didn't get out of first gear and didn't give 100% to the cause, which worried me somewhat. Tilly keeps going on about his workrate though. Did he indeed work his knackers off yesterday then? ;)

I thought he put 100% in tbh, a few things when he done something wrong he looked as if he was really annoyed with himself and kept trying so..

Sounds interesting. Hopefully he can make a big impact for us and turn some of that effort into goals in the coming weeks. I have a feeling his performances may turn out to be key for our season.

Drifted in and out of the game but worked very hard.

Really is exceptional in the air for someone of his build. Also, his movement for the goal was the most incisive of the match and gave us a cutting edge that we'd not come close to. Even more impressive given that he had cleverly drifted from left wing to right forward to lose his marker. I think he may well be the player we need to give us penetration that we badly lack.

Thought he did very well, albeit only 75 mins of football or whatever it was.

From what I saw yesterday he is:

Good in the air
Quite quick, but not pacey.
Got a good cross on him, only saw him try two and one set up the goal (with his right) and the other was hooked in with his left to the edge of the 6 yard box only for Matt Harrold to hand ball.
Good workrate
Good touch
Only had one shot I can remember which he didnt connect too well with but still tested the keeper, albeit not in a major way. Didn't seem to happy with that effort though so hopefully can offer more.

He Looks Like A Good Player To Me,whot We Needed But I Think He Needs To Get Some More On Loan , Sooner Rather Than Later.

If he managed to get a shot away first match he has nearly caught up with Lee Bradburys goal attempts in one game!:hilarious:

Well glad to hear that people are finally getting behind our new signing and not slagging off Tilly's judgement! Good luck to Foran and I look forward to seeing him play.

Looked a great ball across the goal. Looked like Hunty would have got on the end of it anyway but for once Fred did a bit of poaching after good build up from Hunt, Maher and Fred.

Most would have shot but instead he rolled it across and Fred couldn't miss!

I thought that Foran was fantastic. He came on and looked liked he'd been in the side for ages. He is great on the ball, I really can't remember him giving the ball away cheaply, he has intelligent movement and he is very good in the air. He obviously favours his left foot. For me he just looked very very sharp and wanted to get involved. His cross for Freddy was great, so many players would have tried a shot from where he was, but he played the simple ball under pressure and Freddy really couldn't miss. I do however think that he may be wasted on the wing, he could forge a scary partnership with Freddy!
