Ref Watch Refwatch .......... Yeovil (A)

Mick

The Ref Aficionado.
Thanks to their controversial win at Roots Hall back in November, Yeovil hold the narrowest of leads in head-to-head League matches. We have seven wins, they have eight wins and there have been a couple of draws. We have scored 18 goals in those matches; they have scored 19 goals. Obviously, our FA Cup record at Yeovil doesn’t bear thinking about; played three, lost three, every one of them 1-0.

Saturday’s referee is William Davis, a Chartered Physiotherapist from Salford. He left the NHS three years ago and has set up his own practice working very closely with match officials of all levels, from Elite level through to grassroots. This is his first season of refereeing National League matches and his 13 matches so far seem to have gone reasonably smoothly with just 40 yellow cards and one red. Unusually two thirds of those yellows have gone to home players.

He has refereed both Southend and Yeovil once before. The Yeovil match was at home to Maidenhead in October – 3-1 goals 2-1 yellow cards. Three weeks later he took charge of our visit to Altrincham, a 2-0 defeat with the only yellow going to them. A decent performance from him, by all accounts.

The rest of the team are all new to Southend. Assisting are Ciaran Barlow from Truro and James Tewson from Gloucester. Said Ouchene from Paulton in Somerset stands by as Fourth Official.

A bit on parade, Yesterday's officials did ok, the lino on the left hand side in the 2nd half didn't really help the ref out with decision making, preferring to stay "flag down".
The ref was quick to pick up on pushing, shoving and shirt pulling (which appears to be a regular thing in NL). I thought generally he did ok , and we 354 were I believe taking our frustration with the team on him...............................or Nouble

Just the one card for Coker.

Wasn't a dirty game, but thought one of theirs was lucky not to be booked for walking off with the ball and throwing it away when it was our free kick.

Thought he was a little on the fussy side with fouls but at least consistent in doing so. Yeovil played into this a lot in the second half as they tried to see the game out, but we'd have done the same.
