Ref Watch Refwatch ........... Halifax (H)

Mick

Life President
Matches against Halifax commenced in 1958/59 with the abolition of Third Divisions North and South. Since then, we have met 53 times, all league matches, with us having won just over half of them, 27 games, with Halifax having won 13, the other 13 finishing level. I know it’s not the same corporate entity, like Brentwood, having been wound up and re-formed, but they’re called Halifax and play at the Shay so that’s good enough for me. The teams last met just 6 weeks ago with a 2-0 away win at the Shay with goals from Pepple and Crowther.

Man in charge will be refereeing his first Southend match, so not much previous to write about. He is Jaimie O’Connor from Chesterfield. He got a mid-season promotion two years ago, so this is his third season at this level.

This season he has upped his card count somewhat and been rewarded with a couple of Football League matches, the most recent of which was Colchester’s home defeat to lowly Accrington last Saturday. His 13 matches have seen 64 yellows and a couple of reds.

Overall, he has refereed Halifax thrice; two defeats and a draw.

Assisting will be Colman O’Meara, a legal support officer at Middlesex University and another Southend debutant, 48 year old Amarjit Singh Sarao from er ……. Hong Kong where he is a FIFA Assistant Referee, this being his third National League match of his latest visit.

Fourth Official, for the eighth time at Roots Hall is Jack Willmore from Clacton-on-Sea, the most recent of those many appearances being Charlton in the Cup.
