We have had the better of League and Cup matches against Dagenham over the years, although league-wise we tend to do better in away matches. Our League matches have seen 6 victories, 6 draws and just 3 defeats. We have also beaten them twice at Roots Hall in the FA Cup, once they had the help of Redbridge, once without.
Man in charge will be refereeing his first Southend match, so not much previous to write about. Saturday’s referee is Jaimie O’Connor from Chesterfield. He got a mid-season promotion two years ago, so this is his third season at this level.
This season he has upped his card count somewhat and been rewarded with a couple of Football League matches, the most recent of which was Colchester’s home defeat to lowly Accrington a few weeks ago. His 13 matches have seen 64 yellows and a couple of reds.
He was scheduled to take charge of our home match against Halifax a couple of weeks back but that was postponed, conveniently.
He has refereed Dagenham thrice before and they have yet to win with him in charge.
Assisting will be Captain Steve Finch, a military man originally from Southampton who moved to Ipswich some 10 years. In his younger days he played in the Wessex League, got his refereeing qualification whilst stationed in Cyprus. Also served in Afghanistan and the Falklands. Also assisting will be Daniel D'Urso, son of the former Premier League referee Andy D'Urso from Billericay. He attended Westcliff High School for 5 years and now lives in Southwater, West Sussex.
Fourth Official is Jack Bloxham from Harpenden.
