Ref Watch Refwatch ........ Dagenham & Red (H)

Mick

Life President
We have had the better of League and Cup matches against Dagenham over the years, although league-wise we tend to do better in away matches. Our League matches have seen 6 victories, 5 draws and just 3 defeats. We have also beaten them twice at Roots Hall in the FA Cup, one they had the help of Redbridge, one without.

After two decent refereeing performances at Roots Hall, what are the chances of a third? Reasonable, I'd say.

Man in charge is Daniel Middleton from Derby. He was one of the more experienced referees at this level, having six seasons as a National League top level referee before being promoted to the Football League last season. He returns to Roots Hall under the new arrangement whereby referees are pooled together for League One, League Two and the National League. Last season he took charge of 30 matches at Football League level, this season so far, he's done two more - at Wimbledon and Morecambe showing 8 yellows in those two games.

Prior to his promotion, his most recent match at Roots Hall was, co-incidently, against Dagenham the year before last. A 2-0 win and 4 of the 5 yellows went to the visitors so all good there. Our yellow went to Scott-Morriss.

Earlier the same season he refereed our home televised match against Notts County. A creditable draw and level on cautions too – Powell and one of theirs.

He also refereed us twice in 2021/22, having taken charge of our debut non-league match, the victory at Kings Lynn. Sam Dalby’s goal proved to be the only one in the match which saw Ralph and Murphy booked along with two of theirs. They also picked up a late red. His other Southend match was the comfortable home win against Dover. Brunt and three of their players received yellows.

Assisting are Marc Wilson from Cambridge and Bradley Mingay from the Norwich area with Stuart Butler from Maidstone doing the Fourth Official duties.

IIRC the red was for Junior Morais who now plays for Dagenham. Junior though appeared to have taken no chances and disguised himself in a fat suit today.
