Ref Watch Refwatch .......... Barnet (A)

Mick

Life President
Our head-to-head League record against Barnet is still just in our favour with 9 wins to their 8 and only 1 draw. This is despite their double over us in the space of 5 days last season. Not great and loads of cards. The season before, we won well at theirs 3-0 and then they won by the only goal at Roots Hall. The previous season two Matt Dennis goals saw us home at home and towards the end of the season we completed the double with a 3-1 away win. That was almost as good as our best season against them in the League back in 2011/12 when we beat them 3-0 both home and away. Bilel Mohsni scored 4 of those goals, including the hat-trick at home. In the first season back after the war, we beat them 9-2 away in the second round of the Cup, having brushed aside Brush Sports away by 6-1 in round one. Everton, also away, proved stronger opposition in round three and we bowed out with a very creditable 4-2 defeat in front of over 50,000 (so 17 goals in 3 away cup ties!).

Man in charge is Greg Rollason from Wolverhampton. In his early 30s, he is an educationalist from Worcester University and a company director who is in his fourth season as a National League, and therefore now National List, referee. This will be his fifth Southend match.

His first was a particularly poor effort when he totally failed to get to grips with Eastleigh's spoiling tactics during our 3-1 home defeat the season before last. Yellows for Taylor, Ralph and Scott-Morriss and four of theirs. His second was away at Oldham 3 months later. Another defeat, this time 2-0, and unusually all four cautions were to home players. A better performance from him.

His third was our 2-2 draw at Rochdale back in September last season when this time we picked up all four of the yellow cards shown - Miley, Cardwell, Demetriou and Bridge.

Finally he took charge of our outstanding 3-0 win at Solihull back in March. Just one yellow apiece, ours going to Coker.

Assisting will be Stephen Brown from Ashford, Kent and, making a very short journey, Alan Cresswell from Harrow. Michael Webb from Woking stands by as Fourth Official.
