We've played Altrincham six times before, winning three, drawing one and losing two.
Hopefully this Saturday’s referee will not give cause for the refwatch thread to achieve over 5K views!
He is William Davis, a Chartered Physiotherapist from nearby Salford. He left the NHS three years ago and has set up his own practice working very closely with match officials of all levels, from Elite level through to grassroots. This is his first season of refereeing National League matches and his 8 matches so far seem to have gone reasonably smoothly with 29 yellow cards and no reds. Unusually two thirds of those yellows have gone to home players. Unusually he has yet to take charge of an away win.
He has refereed neither Southend nor Altrincham before at this level.
Assisting will be Ashley Allen, an army man from Nottingham and Ryan Aldred from Bolton. Making up the bulk of the travel expenses is Fourth Official, Charles Martland from Swiss Cottage, a history teacher and head of house at Highgate School.
