After the fun and games with Mr Penton's first red card of the season and the performances of the assistants we move on to a referee who has already shown NINE red cards this season. Paul Melin referees a Bournemouth v Southend match for the second year running. Last year's was the League Cup, we won 3-1 and had few complaints. He is, of course, the official who sent off Freddy Eastwood for a push resulting in the frivolous appeal extra game ban. In his 4th season on the League list, he has not had a single Championship match for over a year - so he's obviously not highly rated by the powers that be.
Melin also took charge of that home end of season game recently when we lost to Yeovil.
As the assistants played (or didn't) such a big part Saturday, the ARs for Bournemouth are Messrs Cairns and Creighton. Cairns you will recall looking straight at the offside by a mile Chelsea player Kalou and forgetting to flag when he scored against Newcastle in the last couple of minutes. Probably boasting to his mates that he got Allardyce the sack.
