Reasons to be positive

1. We're about to get lots of money for a game we normally wouldn't give two tosses about. And it might just kick start our season

2. Sodje is back, and starting to find his feet

3. There are plenty of other bad teams lurking around us, doing just as poorly. We're bottom - true - and leaking goals, but these things are cyclical and even themselves out (usually) over the course of a season

4. Hull, Barnsley and Leeds all look as bad as us. True, 2 of them may have just beaten us, but it's still early days

5. Wolves appear to be doing well when you look at the table, but their GD is terrible for a team in the top half of the table. The Hull game was always going to be hard with it being so hyped and important. We probably stand more chance of snatching wins against teams underestimating us than those at our level...

Oh course, we need some help come January and to get more solid, but there's a long way to go yet. This league is always about 3 teams running away with it, 15 teams being seperated by a few points and another 4 or 5 scrapping it out til the last day of the season.

If we only stay up on the last day of the season, then I'll be one very happy Shrimper. Mission accomplished.

I wish I was as positive and optimistic as you Seany T

well yeah... I sat at home watching Sky Sports News on Tuesday (not being able to get back to Essex for the game) and felt disstraught come that third goal from Hull, but we knew it'd be something like this

There's been the odd glimmer of hope. Here and there.

We just need some confidence back. And a clean sheet.
And some belief...

And this is the exact reason why YOU are positive and those who were able to go are not........

Am I feeling positive about our chances right now? No I'm pretty sure we're going down unfortunately

Prove me wrong Tilly!!!!

6. Our LDV qualification campaign is going better than many predicted and we are on course for Wembley 2007/08.

A pessimist can only ever be proved wrong I guess!

I've only missed two home games this season, and gone to a couple of away, so I've seen enough to know we're not great, but that there are plenty of other teams that aren't a whole lot better either

All I'm saying is, rather than spend hours coming up with 45 different tactical variations on ways in which we'd probably still get beaten on this board (and which we'll likely never see anyway), maybe we should just stop being so dispondent and see what happens.

Barnsley lost. Leeds are in real trouble. Hull are all over the shop. And if everyone now expects us to be as bad as these guys (rightly so), then maybe we'll catch a few of them by surprise. Personally, I've always had more of a sneaky feeling that we'd get a result out of the Wolves game than either of the last two.

This season was only ever going to be a struggle. If we're still 3 points off of staying up in a few months time with 3 to play, then thats not such a bad outcome. As long as we are...

Not questioning how many games you've been to whatsoever mate but the manner of Tuesday's defeat in particular was horrendous. The quality of football was horrific for this level (Hull were bad but us in particular), we just lumped it up to Harrold every time L2 style. But the overwhelming issue was the defence which to be frank was barely Sunday League standard all night. I defy anyone to have seen Tuesday's game and dispute that we are 100% going down UNLESS something drastic is changed and quick!!!!!

No-one likes Whelan but harsh on him there mate as he wasn't managing us at that time - infact that 5-0 reverse was his debut on loan from Liverpool.

Course you could've said the 5-0 at Oxford or the 6-1 at Palace with regards to Whelan which were arguably even worse than that at Molineux.

Fair point AD. Conceeding the amount we have so far this season is worrying - especially with most of them being at the "fortress"

Well... got a feeling about this weekend. Hope I'm right!

True but how are we going to get that win?

A soft penalty? A fluffed shot which the keeper fumbles in? That was Coventry and Hull. We didn't even draw those games.

Those goals should have been the boost we needed to go on and win. Instead despite those gifts we still lost, and the players are now too nervous to do anything but hoof it forward, get rid of it, let someone else take responsibility.

Unless we take the lead with less than 5 minutes left, I can't see this team in its current mental state holding onto a lead.

Ah dammit, I knew I should have checked the SUFCDB to confirm who was in charge before I posted that.

I am getting mixed up with the last trip to Wolves, a 1-4 under Whelan (we must have been bad, even Andy Rammell scored!!!). The infamous 0-5 sticks in the memory but that was under Taylor, who'd have thought he would have achieved what he has in management during those few weeks!

Have to agree with the 0-5 at Oxford, one of my most miserable away-days ever & I think anyone who witnessed that probably knew the writing was on the wall, much like those are saying the Hull performance indicated this week!

Was that 5-0 defeat at Wolves the start of a 7 match unbeaten run (for younger fans use to double figure unbeaten spells or 7 wins in a row, this was at the time exceptional), ended only when we lost 5-0 to Port Vale?

Yeah and the run secured Peter Taylor a vastly improved contract until he got sacked the following February

Cheer up Eeyore.  We were shocking from 5pm on 29 October 2005 until about 9pm on 29 December 2005, but we still won at Hartlepool - despite the fact that the Monkey-hangers ought to have been about 4-0 up at half time.

You've been watching us long enough to know that football is totally and utterly unpredictable - it's what makes it such a great game.

It was actually an 8 game unbeaten run HKB, indeed ending with a 5-0 thumping at Vale.

You hit the nail right on the head. And then we beat Man Utd, or at least play well against them. And then it's Game On all over again...
