Griemink 7 - secure as ever, my only criticism would be that he and Eagle seemed to lack an understanding at the back, hopefully this will improve as they get use to playing alongside each other
Hunt 7 - quietish game, but did everything asked of him
Wilson 7 - one of his better games, a cracking left foot cross for the third being his highlight, but hopeless when players run at him, thankfully Rushden only did this the once. Also gave his man room to cross on a couple of occasions.
Barrett 7.5 - Secure at the back, looks dangerous on his occasional forays forward
Edwards 7 - conceded too many corners (see Griemink) but better safe than sorry
Maher 8 - solid all round display by the skipper who was on his toes today
Bentley 7.5 combative as ever, one spell encapsulates his game when he chased at full speed a Rushden player for 40 yards which enabled another Southend player to win back possession and set Bentley charging forward 40 yards, bursting through one tackle before eventually being dispossed. Got in great positions as ever, and for once managed to convert good positions into a goal, and would have been two (is the crossbar still shaking?)
Pettefer 6 - largely anonymous first half he will have almost certainly "worked his socks off" [© S. Tilson, 2004]
Nicolau 8 - added an extra dimension - width - to our play. The best crosser at the club by a long way. Faded a little after an excellent first 20 minutes, why has it taken so long for him to have been given a chance when there have been loads of games this season when we could have done with introducing a player like him from the bench?
Bramble 8.5 (MOTM) - gave the Rushden defence the run around all game. He popped up in the middle, on the left, on the right. Every attack seemed to go through him, Rushden couldn't get the ball off him, yet still people find reasons to have a go at him. My only criticism is that he should have capped his performance with at least one goal. If only he would be given use of the family brain cell all the time we'd have a great player.
Dudfield - 7.5 eclipsed by Tes, Dudders still was involved in a lot of our better moves. Will be very interesting to see who gets the nod at Kiddie.
Subs Gray 7 - The only thing a sub can really do given the last 5 or so minutes of a game is pull a hamstring from not being warmed-up properly. Fortunately Wayne managed to avoid injury and so gains an extra mark for this.
