Ryan Leonard got a 3.5 year deal which an option in the clubs favour. The 3.5 years expires this summer. Needs another long contract please Ronald. McLaughlin got 3 years too i recall.

Is that confirmed that we still have a years option on Leonard? Because if so that's a relief, I thought he was completely out of contract this summer.

90+% reliant on him.... it's why we need another decent striker/target man....
90% of clubs would love one decent striker! we however have 3, yes that's 3! Ranger, Fortune & Cox would get into any league 1 side and probably a fair few of champ sides as well...we've never had is so good:happy:

I'm normally one of Brown's harshest critics and I'm still not 100% he is the man to keep us up or push us forward.

One thing is for sure though the signing of Ranger and helping to sort this contract is a stroke of masterclass and he certainly earns brownie ( :winking: ) points with me for that.

I think PB should be getting a big slice of the credit for this. Took a gamble/chance when everyone else turned their backs on the lad. Positioned the club and player the right way, slowly building up the relationship and opportunities for him to move forward with the team and move further away from his past. Looking forward to seeing him play over the next couple of weeks. Glad the "Shrimpers" are in a good positive league position right now, looking for us to build on this. Just glad the negative comments and pessimism has died down for now. COYB.

Yes, Just 2 months ago you demanded people to explain themselves for the crime of not voting Brown out. I believe it was AndyT who wrote a decent post about not sacking the manager. Its about time you replied, as you couldn't be bothered back then.

He just has replied hasn't he?

Please point me in the direction of that post. I did ask people to explain and I didn't condemn anyone on their opinion or choice I just wondered why! I have got it wrong at the moment but there is nothing to say we won't go into free fall and **** poor form like we did at the start of this year again and toy with relegation.

I'm sure AndyT did put a good post and I may have missed it, I know I'm a Mod but I also hold down a full time demanding job and have a family, so I can't read every post! I will always admit when I am wrong and with my assumption that Brown had used every excuse in the book and was destined to send us down, partially proved wrong with our good recent form I am going to admit I got it wrong then. But like I said there is still plenty of time for us to still get relegated and I'm not sure if Brown is the right man for the Southend job going forward.

No dramas 'Ricey'.

It didn't bother me, tbh.

Looking back on that thread, there were some interesting views at the time and many I could understand and agree with, but I felt we had some good players and just needed a settled system and availability. Thankfully we have now and are starting to look a very good side.

This was the thread, which is now on page 13 on my PC :-

Sounds to me like you want the team to fail, so that you can be proved right.

Don't be so ridiculous! I'm a Southend United fan and have been all of my football supporting life. I want nothing but success for the club regardless of who is in charge. Stop fishing for an argument and get back on topic!

Yes sir, I don't want to risk being put on a fizzer.

Lets hope Mr Ranger keeps out of trouble and shows some more confidence with his shooting and we will all be proved wrong by the end of the season......I had us down to finish 10th.

Well done Philip, you must have worked hard to get this over the line, you are the best manager.

Think it's Ron who deserves the credit. He's the one who has backed Brown in taking Ranger on and he is the one who has negotiated the new contract. I knew about this about a month ago, just didn't know when it was being announced!

True but also it takes trust in the manager's judgement which he has. It's important to have the two working together and we appear to have that.

I am also very happy with this.

So far Ranger has been very good for the club ........... and it seems the club has been good for him. Excellent.

I do agree that we need another striker. I do not have that much faith in Mr Mooney or Mr Williams and that leaves Ranger, Cox and Fortune to share the workload and not get injured or suspended.

My initial reaction to this is it's a huge gamble. Imagine if he commits some kind of serious misdemeanour and we're stuck with him for three more years? He's doing well with us so far but history is not on his side here.

Taking him in the summer was a gamble. Giving him 3.5 years is a gamble too, but given his form it's one we really had to take. If he's still here in 3.5 years I'd suggest something has gone badly wrong - this deal suits both parties as it gives Ranger some security and means we can take a fee for him if he moves up the pyramid without us.
