Ok, I'm not holding out much hope that anyone can answer this as its very random.

Do TV adverts give out any signal that they are about to be broadcast?

I know that some channels show the scrolling black and white bars in the top right corner, but not all channels do this.

In short I want to be able to use some sort of identifier that an ad is about to begin and link this to some live tv recording software (via some coding) on a pc, to tell it to record any ad breaks on a certain channel.

So in the unlikely event that anyone has any knowledge in this area, please get in touch!

Depends on what you're watching but if you watch it enough, you see the signs. Dramas often have ad breaks after a mini-cliffhanger so you can channel hop then.

As to your device question, not that I've heard of.

Yes they do.

It's highly technical, and I won't bore you with the details, but it's colloquially known as "end of part one".

That tells you that the adverts are going to start.

Of course if there is any hardware/software out there that can specifically identify ad breaks via live tv on a pc and records it, please let me know!
