From today's Racing Post:
Tranmere v Southend - Recommendation: Tranmere, 3pts 7-4 (Bet365)
THERE is no getting away away from the fact that Tranmere have had a poor campaign, but they can give their supporters something to cheer about when table-topping Southend visit Prenton Park today.
Rovers, third favourites for the League One title ante-post, are in 14th spot, but are unbeaten since Boxing Day and sit just nine points off a play-off place. Brian Little’s team showed grit and did the ugly things right in the 0-0 draw at Hartlepool last time out, and 7-4 looks the best bet on the coupon.
Little reverted to a 3-5-2 formation in the north-east and it is a system which suits the Wirral boys. Simon Francis and Gareth Roberts are dangerous wing-backs, Steven O’Leary pulls the strings in midfield and a front two of Calvin Zola and Chris Greenacre can be as hot as any in this division.
Southend, who have not won away to any of the top 12, have done remarkably well to sit at the summit, and confidence will be high in the camp after last week’s 4-1 victory over Brentford.
However, the Bees never showed up and United will have to be at their very best to justify favouritism here.
