Proof bennet and co

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? The ref certainly didn’t see anything and the lino hasn’t told us what he saw. The debate is did maher raise his arms and push dongle? Unfortunately the video isn’t conclusive, he may have had his arms slightly raised and squared up to him with his arms in front of him, subsequently knocking him over.

What is certain from the video is his arms, if at all raised, were certainly not raised above shoulder height. Law sates violent conduct shoulder down is bookable and shoulder up (head) is straight red.

Bolton v arsenal yesterday shows a blatant push to the chest (1 minute in) straight in front of the ref of whom rightly so issued a yellow.

Why someone with hazy evidence issues a red is beyond me, thanks a lot bennet spoilt a great derby yesterday. Refund for all those that risked their lives standing in that rapidly falling down shed for 90 min please?

No it doesn't; violent conduct is a dismissable offence whether you stamp on someones foot, head-butt someone or anything in between.

The real issue is whether violent conduct occurred, not on what part of the body.

Very difficult to see exactly what it was, but if it was a push to the chest that has this season been downgraded to a yellow.

'Pushing' an opponent is a direct free kick and a yellow card whilst 'violent conduct' is a 'red card' offence. The question is not where the hands, arms, legs or boots strike an opponent but the intent. So if the referee thinks a 'push' is delivered in a violent manner then the player will be sent off. Equally a player might be injured enough by a foul to have to leave the game but if the ref thinks no violence was intended then the offender will only get a yellow card. Its all down to the ref and we are unlucky enough to get a clown whose convinced by theatrics rather than evidence - like was there a bruise or cut on Duguid face !
