We want 4 stands!
I'll be the first to jump in.

This league is rubbish. Martin has picked up a good manager, who in turn has assembled a good squad of players (don't ask me how). Ideally we need more punch up front, but given that we can only really get better as time goes on, I'd say we're a good bet for going up.

I only hope that if this does turn out to be a decent season, people don't forget that Martin got us right into the ****, so doesn't deserve any credit if we subsequently claw our way out of it.

I don't think so;
We have played 3 of the bottom teams and won. Doesn't make us promotion contenders in my book, lets see how we fare next weekend, that will be a good yardstick.
That said we seem to play better against better opposition. Almost a quarter of the season gone and PS said let's look at it after 10 games.
Well if we are there or there abouts by Christmas, and we don't lose Grant in January, make a loan signing/signing goalscorer then who knows?
This seems a poor league, with an average organised team, a contolled Moshni, a loan sgning if we are close.... don't write us off either

we lack that bit of class to be serious contenders, we didnt exactly create a hatful of chances on saturday

like the optimism, but fear we may struggle against the better teams in the division. October will be a good yardstick with teams like Chesterfield, Bury and Rotherham to play. I know we seem to play better against the better teams, but also they will punish our mistakes and our periods of slackness more than Lincoln did saturday.

Tend to agree, we ended up with our backs against the wall on saturday, when we should have had the 3 points wrapped up in the first 20 minutes or so. We got the goal, then took our foot off the pedal - and we were lucky that Lincoln were so poor because better teams would have punished our lapses in concentration and awful defending (of which I still feel is mainly Moshni's tendency to wander off and lurch in an undisciplined manner...). Timlin was okay, but we need a holding midfielder (Easton) back, and we need to stop being frightened of finishing teams off. I dont think we are serious contenders, but its nice to dream!!

It was only a few games ago many on here where worried we could stay out of the relegation zone, a few wins against bottom sides doesnt make us promotion candidate. Wins in october against a few high flyers, well that will be different.

It is a poor league and some of the defending on the Football League show highlights were laughable. I mean Chesterfield and Accrington are ahead of us but let in 9 goals between them yesterday. Only Port Vale have been really solid defensively yet lost yesterday. That will be the key, being tight at the back, hardworking in midfield but we do need some more creativity and killer punch up front. Corr and A. N. Other would be good up front.

I've seen every game so far, there's not a lot between the teams in this league. With a decent run and a settled side I see no reason why we can't at least make the play offs.

Agree that this is a poor division but we are just one of the many poor teams in it! Grant apart, how many of our present squad would be attracting the attention of other clubs?

We will get to the play off finals this year. As soon as it was announced they were at Cardiff, I just thought it was a dead cert. We always play at Cardiff and it would be ironic that we miss out on Wembley again because of a one off final. I'd be happy to see another game there...

Echo the above , a very poor league and one that could be won by any team that is in the 14 at the moment so yes its early doors , but the one thing we have massively in our favour is we have a managers who Knows exactly what and how to get out of this league and I can only trust that he will get it right or will be close to getting it right .

Even to this day it doesn't feel or seem right that southend are in the basement division , but we are and it looks as though PS has assembled a team that can hopefully fight their way out of this league if need be , lets keep this winning habit going .

i have a feeling we will make the playoff final, for the simple fact it is not at Wembley, and we seem destined not to visit.

Promotion? Not likely.

Not that I'm slating the team or management. But we've got an entirely new team who are still gelling and up & down each week. Come january Sturrock will try to improve his squad, dumping some of the squad fillers he brought in, and then we'll need to gel again. A midtable finish this season will be a fantastic acheivement by Sturrock and he doesn't need ridiculous expectations like this weighing the team down.

Agree with the initial point. Everyone I have seen baring Port Vale has been pony. I am sure the standard has dropped since the last time we were in here. I know were not exactly walking the league but the football has been woeful.

A decent forward at this level and I would quote fancy us to go up.
