Pressure off? - no chance

If ever we wanted a swift reminder of how fragile our current position is, the Barnsley result at Plymouth showed it clearly. If QPR win their game in hand then we are back in the dreaded zone. With everyone fighting for their lives, who is to say that Hull wont get a point or three at the Stadium of Light on Saturday? Stranger things have happened. With three going down, nothing will be settled until the last game of the season. Forget our last two results, we must win on Saturday to keep our noses in front.

Exactly. I feel a few people may have got a little too carried away after Tuesday (as they did after the QPR game). We are still in a bad position- it's just better than it was.
Four wins will be enough from our last eight games i think. But we've gotta get those four wins. To be honest, if we need a result going into the Southampton game then i don't fancy us.

Dare I say it? The Blues never do anything easy. I can see us biting our nails at St. Mary's!

Totally agree. Just look at the last few games going on around us recently.

Ipswich thump Hull 5-2, Hull then promptly go away and beat Preston 2-0 and then Luton 2-1 whilst we go away the following week and get a result up at Portman Road.

As we have seen before throughout this season the form book means absolutely diddly squat when it comes to hanging onto Championship status and fighting for survival.

This Saturdays game is HUGE. A loss could totally undo all the hard work the lads have put in these last few weeks and I feel that nerves are going to play a crucial part in the outcome.

My pre match team talk would go along the lines of ..... go out there at 110mph right from the off. Don't give any player and time on the ball at all. Get stuck in, let them know your there.

plus barnsley won last night!

Yes, thats the point of the thread :)

The Barnsley result was indeed disappointing but it doesnt change much, we knew 3 more wins should keep us up and thats still the case.

The more our fellow strugglers do to help us stay up the better but we know what we need to do.

I think Hull and Barnsley have hit form at just the right time - and, to be honest, it would seem a surprise if either of them got sucked back into the relegation whirlpool.

To be honest, I think it's three from four who will go down: us, Leeds, Luton and QPR - and it has looked that way for a while now.

Anyone who thinks that Tuesday's result somehow means we'll be safe should be taken outside and have a bucket of cold water thrown over them. Tuesday's result simply means that we now have a chance of staying up, rather than being dead and buried.

We are still going to have to play remarkably well - and hope that Leeds, Luton & QPR continue to struggle - to have any chance of staying up. I would think that we still have a less than evens chance of staying up, that's for sure.

The only other team who may get sucked into it are Burnley, who must be wondering where their next win is coming from right now. But don't count on Hull or Barnsley; the Tigers, in particular, seemed to have timed their run of good form to perfection...

Yours, still refusing to count chickens,

Matt

I wouldn't say Burnley may get sucked into it - I'd say they are already sucked into it. They are also in the worse form of anyone in the league.

This game on Saturday is massive. I reckon if we beat Leeds they are as good as down, if not it's all to play for.

before Tuesday's game I looked at the last 10 games of the bottom seven, including this weeks results the form goes

Southend 17 points
Barnsley 16
Hull 14
Leeds 11
QPR 7
Luton 5
Burnley 4

Gawd knows where you get that from. Barnsley are not in good form - they beat a bitterly disappointed team in Plymouth, who's season is effectively over. Their run in is not nice either. It's still any three from seven (possibly eight with Ipswich looking over their shoulder if they lose again on Saturday).

I would say the post below is an indication of where the form stats have come from.

However, who's to say it doesn't all turn on its head just yet. 8 nail biters left.

The simple fact is we shouldn't be looking at the teams around us. If we win games we have nothing to worry about.
