Pre-Christmas bargains vs New Year Sales

I'm sure I know the answer to this but...

I need a new laptop and am debating whether or not to order today (since there are some pretty good deals around) or wait until the New Year Sales.

Are shops getting as competitive as they can be prior to Christmas or are Sales still the big thing?

I'd say you might get a better deal pre-Xmas these days (especially on or around the 21st) than you do after the sales begin.

Got a Dell laptop recently (& other than the delivery being a nightmare, thanks to the outsourced pr1cks Dell use) it's been an amazing bargain!
