Going to Prague this weekend for my uncles wedding (only he would make it on the same day as SUFC, England FC and England RFC) .

Anyway im getting there Thursday and ive got 2 days before the wedding to roam the streets, see the sights and get drunk.
Just wondered has anyone been here before and if so does anyone recommend any sites to see/pubs to visit.

Yes I went for a weekend 2 summers ago.
Stay away from the bars in Wenceslas Square, overpriced compared to other parts of the city. I believe there are other "attractions" near there but don't know for definite as I was with the Mrs (& her parents).

Most bars have quality beer available for decent prices (although not as cheap as it used to be I believe). Restaurants are also really good value (we went to an Italian near our hotel and it was about £6.50 per head for 3 courses including wine).

At Prague airport, go to the kiosk selling travel tickets and get the bus/subway travel pass thingy (IIRC you can also get ones that will cover the length of your stay letting you use all buses/tubes/trams & even the funicular). If you tell the staff where you're staying they'll offer you the best advice on how to get to your hotel etc. Czech people seemed very friendly.

Also when we were walking around the city centre, everywhere we seemed to go we kept finding ourselves back at the anatomical clock.

If you want a more chilled part of Prague to go to, go to the old Jewish quarter as well as Andel City (where we stayed).

Hope that helps!

K cheers for that mate.

Should be a good pi** up hopefully. Whats there beer like any good?

Beer heaven.
Urquell, Krusovice, Budvar or Staropramen mainly plus Euro/world wide brands e.g. Guinness, Heineken, Budweiser etc.
In terms of Czech beers here we tend to just get the export lager variety but over there the main brands tend to do at least 3 different types. The dark Staropramen is the best I found!

And don't forget the price - I went in 2002 and staying away from the tourist traps, we were paying about 20p a bottle.

It's a beautiful city, you have to work pretty hard to not have a great time.

True, although I think we're nearer to 60p a pint now

Don't forget the beautiful women too ;)

Been twice, once on a stag and once with the Mrs. Both times superb and it ranks as my favourite city in Europe. Last time I went was July 2005 and was still only paying 60p a pint in the bars. As mentioned Wencelas Sq is overpriced but there is a cracking Sports Bar just through the square that has Sky Sports etc. It is down a small passage way at the side of a church, sorry cannot remember the name of it.

The bars and restaurants across Charles Bridge as you walk up to the Palace are where you get some cheap beers and good food - plus they have cracking roof terraces with views back across the City. In fact when we went it was that hot they had sprinklers refershing you with cold water!

Trip along the river is worthwhile - most of the boats have bars!

have a look at this - the Sports bar is just off the top of Wencleslas square - Legends and George and Dragon near the old Town Square

have a drink on the roof terrace(take the glass lift) at U Princu near the Clock and have a bite at Cihelna (outside if the weather OK) . La Bodeguita is a good bar for drinks and a bite and a bit of salsa to watch if you are lucky - also has sports events on usually

enjoy !!

Jump on one of the trams, a great way to see the city.

Go and visit the Zizkov TV Tower with giant babies crawling up it!, had lunch on the top of it which gives great views over the city, including Sparta and Slavia Pragues football stadiums!..

Plenty of brasses milling about Wenceslas Square at night aswell if you are game of course?!!..

Darling's is a very good place and Goldfingers I think it was called was an old cinema where the ladies performed on the stage at the front - if you get what I mean!

Well I of course wouldn't anything about the ahem, less 'cultural' activities. Cough. But as for your sporting problem, if you've got any time on the day itself, there is a fantastic little sports bar near the powder tower which shows everything, and does six pints of Kruseviche (sp?) for under four quid.

Charles Bridge is a nice sight to see.

Beer at the old square is extremely expensive, we were paying nearly £5 a pint from the restaurants there. Best do your drinking elsewhere, the bar next to our hotel was about 60p a pint.

Wenceslas Square is full of strip clubs and were good fun later on in the night. The one we went in was a tenner to get in and free beer. Somehow we still spent a fortune though, cant remember what on though, er yeah.
